That was a mesovort. Winds maximized inside the "notch". I couldn't find the couplet on RadarScope, but did on Radar Omega. It has rotated out and the winds have settled to more "normal" speeds in that part of the eyewall.

We got out yesterday morning. Everyone I know also left, but i'm sure there are many that stayed.

I'm more concerned about those people to the South of Tampa who watched the forecast for two or three days showing that Ian would weaken before landfall. They may not have understood that the farther South the landfall the less likely that forecast would verify.

This was an extremely difficult storm to message for those in its path.
