Well Yang has started a movement for it. If his movement takes off like I hope it does things could progress quickly. Maybe not in time for 2024 though. I am a huge fan of him and many of his ideas.

Well the entire media complex to start. The more chaos, the more clicks.

yang isn't pushing for a real UBI
he's pushing for welfare payments to return, just on a larger scale, while keeping the remainder of the nanny state in place

you go listen to the frigne-left and it will be a DEM talking point within 18 months these days
Obviously not an apples to apples comparison, but...

Disagree.
He's pushing $1k/m for all citizens at 18+. People on other systems can keep what they have if they want but many of them get less than that for welfare programs and many others would prefer the cash anyway. I believe the idea is to eventually have the other programs be ultimately proven stupid compared to a UBI.

And honestly I have no idea how serious some of these people are (but I assume some of them dead serious), but typically when people want something they ask for way more than they want and then compromise. You get more out of a shove than a nudge.

if we go this route it should be UBI as an equal amount to every adult and eliminate the nanny state otherwise

i'm just saying that this isn't even going to be palatable on the left in time

Is there a more self-righteous prick on here than lsucajun?? We get it!! The ad nauseam I’m a fireman, I save lives, blah blah blah.
The act is old man, give it a rest!
Most firemen I know are cool af and most NEVER virtue signal about their job. You on the other hand, tell the whole world at every opportunity. Your co-workers must really love you
You’re like the guy that joins drama club to get girls but oblivious that everyone thinks you’re a fig

No, I didn't get a law degree to become a public SERVANT! 80%+ New Orleans fireman are a product of the New Orleans public school system.... think about that
Now get over yourself and service the public like I’m paying you to do

I had no idea Harry lost his common sense when he left the Queen's palace.

Why not just quarantine the at risk groups and let everyone else build herd immunity?
Next corona virus may have some resistance then.

Sacrificing a few unhealthy elderly is acceptable damage to save the economic health of the nation.
I personally am friends with 2 people who are far from elderly and both are at high risk of not surviving contracting Covid-19, and both have been told that by their physicians very recently. 1 is in his early 20’s and the other in her early 30’s. This cavalier behavior might be fine with them making it through unscathed, but how about the actions of spreading it to people who aren’t so fortunate?

because you can stop all traffic accidents by using the same stay home and self quarantine restrictions for corona
and auto accidents kill far more people then corona does
so if no one ever leaves their house again we can even 100% stop the common cold from spreading
in both cases the cure is moronic and stupid and the effects are worse and more deadly then the disease

How many families are you OK with driving to financial ruin to save 1 life? 10? 100? 1000?
So give us your answer. Because I don't have one. I have an 84 year old mom and a 3 year old grandson that I'd be willing to ruin every one of you to have around for a bit longer. Is it selfish, sure. Would I understand if that wasn't possible, of course since it almost never is possible to make that simple exchange. Frankly, I'm glad I don't make that decision.
It appears right now that the number is probably going to hit a thousand or more with what we're doing. If we overwhelm the medical facilities it will be greater than just the COVID-19 deaths, it will also be the people that medical professionals and hospitals will not be able to attend to in a timely and proper fashion to save their lives. Car accidents, heart attacks, other pneumonia patients.
After all, the real purpose of this whole exercise is just that, to slow down the rate of patients that have to be dealt with.

Do you not have parents? or any loved ones with underlying health issues? Do you not have an ounce of compassion? What do you think would happen to the world's economy if we did nothing and 60 million people died over the next 12 months from the virus? because that's what would happen when hospitals are overrun.

I don't see how anyone could still think that millions of people are going to die from this.
