Wouldn't be surprising. Enough to keep up with in the US

I think we need to take precautions. I’m also going to be on the golf course as much as possible.

I believe it's better not to shut down the country over a virus.

The government doesn't even print money. They borrow it from the people who print it, with the promise that they'll repay it, out of your taxes, no matter how much or how little actually ends up getting printed.

The latter. Chances are they would die of something else if they have underlying issued and are old. Yes it would suck if one of those was my family, but no guarantees they wouldn't have gotten it anyway with all of the measures.

Call me selfish.

"This will all be over sooner rather than later". The facts say differently. What facts are you making your claim on?

Conservacucks are happy to throw away thousands of lives for short term profits, just look at how they happily shipped all of our industry to China for money. The dollar is more valuable than the dollar holder to most people on this website.
And you are willing to throw away/destroy lives to save lives, which makes zero sense.

Congrats on your faux moral superiority.

No, you don’t. I have a 73 year old mother who’s had triple bypass open heart surgery. In no way do I want to rush her into the ground.

What happens when jobs and grannies are lost? What then?

Then you get to imagine a new world that corrects all the ills so many people loved to bitch about.

Both sides have some sort of quasi moral superiority on this debate, right wingers believe that if the economy can be saved then thousands of lost lives are worth it. Left wingers think that if we can save thousands of lives at the cost of the economy then it is worth it.

The truth of the matter is that the answer lies in the middle its just a matter of how much we are willing to sacrifice in money and lives as to what is the best answer to all of this. But I would rather sacrifice this fraudulent economy and stock market in the pursuit of saving lives instead of continuing to prop up its bloated corpse.

If this leads to economic hardship for years to come but ends with us restoring much of our lost industry that we shipped out to China and other shitholes then I say it is worth it.

the problem is this assumes we don't lose lives with financial crises

Unless the hysteria somehow can be corralled, this is inevitable.

0% chance of that happening.

You have on one side those who agree with the measures that are being taken, see Covid-19 as a serious health issue for the nation, and want to save as many lives as possible.

On the other side you have those who see the measures being taken as an overreaction that is destroying the economy and costing too many people their jobs and business. Sacrificing a few unhealthy elderly is acceptable damage to save the economic health of the nation.

The first group outnumbers the second group now.

But after a couple of weeks, people are going to start wondering if it's worth it. We'd better start seeing real results.

I thought we were talking about a short-term plan to minimize the bleeding?

However, I do think long-term UBI would actually pay off, as long as it replaces the clusterfrick of programs we have now.

You are sacrificing just as many lives to do that.

That is what I don’t understand.

Your argument essentially comes down to “let’s sacrifice lives to save lives”, which makes zero sense.

And the middle ground is to cover both sides, but our population was so fricking consumed with unfounded panic and fear that our governments had to act.

Now they are simply on a “let us show that we can do better than those other guys” trajectory and every governor is trying to one up every other one.

It is beyond absurd.
