I find this a giant overreaction. Anything short of sudden death or zombies running down the street isn’t going to collapse society.
Say this thing is as communicable as they claim. Will the death rate really be worse than the actual seasonal flu? Doubtful. Will the old and infirm still be at risk for seasonal flu and resulting pneumonia? Absolutely.
This is nothing but a media frenzy and overreaction. This reaction is equivalent of Typhus or Ebola, when the death rate is like 3%.
The entire list of deaths in the US has 90+% by those over 70. Whatever, man. We’ll just tank ourselves into oblivion apparently.

what information can we use to stop the spread of a virus that doesn't present symptoms in 50-75% of people and takes 5-14 days (while being contagious) to manifest in ones who do show symptoms?
we would literally have to test EVERYONE, including blood for antibodies to see who already had it

Herd immunity (and doing our absolute best to lock down nursing homes, oncology clinics, etc) is the only answer.

I’m kinda thinking if someone has a disease that has shut down the entire world, you shouldn’t need to do some complex test to confirm it. It’s not a fricking mystery when someone gets Ebola. Or has some illness where they are shitting themselves to death.
Our businesses have been shut down for at least a month because of a weaker version of the flu. What known sicknesses ARENT made more severe by pre existing conditions?

SK is relaxing after 8 weeks. They went a little harder than we did, but they must have had reasons to lessen their restrictions.
I think we lessen the restrictions as soon as we get testing established and the curve of positive results flattens.

It won't be 8 weeks for us. Its just not going to happen.
3 more weeks at most, IMO. I've been saying it for awhile but people will be sick of this shite, and as soon as the reality of a large segment of the population missing their first and 2nd paychecks or weeks of tips kicks in, this will all be over. The tide will turn, things will pick up, and people will just learn to deal with it.

when the US adopts asian collectivism and shrinks our country to the size of Missouri (while being, effectively, an island), we can compare the US to SK
1. we aren't going to act like them. hell we're under mini-martial law and we're still not acting like them

it's flattening the curve of cases, so instead of a huge spike where we deal with, basically 100% of our cases, we get 20%/month for 5 months

I hope you're right, but I wouldn't be shocked to see politicians and political appointees extend well beyond that to save their own hides.
Needless to say, another 3 weeks of this is still going to completely devastate the US financially.
