And where does the money for these magical checks come from?
It's an investment, not just an expense.

Yes. They do, because that is what they WANT.
This country has become hyper politicized. If he lifts restrictions at any time, they will blame anything on him.
He will not (and should not) let the economy collapse. This will be over sooner rather than later.

It isn’t on him at this point.
Every state governor has made a proclamation that shuts things down for more than 15 days.
Hell, Cuomo has already stated that he believes the “peak” will be in 1.5 months, and that is New York, one of the world’s largest economies.
You and others need to give up on the 2 weeks idea.
This is at least 1 month of panic driven stupidity.
We have driven WAY passed that point.

I'm sure some want that as a struggling economy is one of the main things that can keep an incumbent from being re elected
but the one thing I commend Trump on is that I don't think he will go down without a fight

If FedGov issues guidlines on some return to normalcy. A lot of states will follow. Those that don't will see other communities not falling into mass death camps and will follow suit due to pressure from citizens suffering economic calamity.

On the other side you have those who see the measures being taken as an overreaction that is destroying the economy and costing too many people their jobs and business. Sacrificing a few unhealthy elderly is acceptable damage to save the economic health of the nation.
The problem is that if you let it spread, it's not going to just affect the "elderly". Lots of younger folks who are immunocompromised that make our economy go. And then you have the conditions that will claim lives when hospitals become overwhelmed from COVID-19.
The economy is going to take a hit whether you take extreme preventative measures or you let it just run rampant.

He is the POTUS. It will land on his lap whether its fair or not. And the federal government has a lot more power and resources than the states.

I get to lay it all at their feet, and if I am wrong, I’ll at least be very happy eating that crow.

The CDC's job is to control death rates on viruses like these they really don't care what it does to the stock market. The president has to play a balancing act focusing on what the long term economic impacts will be. The health and safety of people should be #1 while health of economy is #2. Markets can and will rebound (as history shows) where as you cannot go back in time and get back the lives that were lost. After all if your in your 60's and die from the virus, who cares what your retirement account is at.. you're not going to be around to draw from it anyways. Yes we may be doing all this shutdown for nothing but we simply don't have the accurate sample pool from the virus to know for sure if this virus really is a 3% death rate. That would be very substantial as nearly 8-9 million US citizens would die from it. Hopefully the true death rate is lower but until we can get enough testing supplies to test everyone and not have to be selective about who we test we won't know the true severity of this virus.

I don't see it happening that way. If the feds scale back the money, every Dem governor and media outlet will make political hay out of it.

But in both principle and practice, the more people that have the funds to maintain a decent standard of living, the more the economy benefits. Investment in economic activity pays off.

Yep.
Hell, many in the media are apoplectic that Dems and anti-Trump people are saying Trump isn't doing a bad job.
Once this starts to curtail, the knives will be out.

but if borrowing money to distribute through society ends up making more money via taxes, then how can we possibly end up in debt regardless?

sure but this is almost always private investment
and redistributing money just to keep the lowest levels of retain commerce has no lasting value to "pay off" the debt

Conservacucks are happy to throw away thousands of lives for short term profits, just look at how they happily shipped all of our industry to China for money. The dollar is more valuable than the dollar holder to most people on this website.
