Mexican showers are great actually (inb4 that’s racist). Heat a pot of water on the stove and use a wash cloth or sponge to clean up. Dump leftover water on head. When camping it makes you feel like a brand new man.

What you do is you get you one of those 3 gallon pesticide sprayers at at tractor supply. Mix your hot and cold water at the desired temperature, pump it up, and instant shower. We used this at a primitve hunting camp and itvwas great.

Be sure to refill your water heater tank before you turn the power back on to it so that you dont burn out the elements.

Lake Charles has apartments for $4,500 a month?

That place is an armpit

Entergy just rolled by our place. I stopped them because literally every other street has power but us.

We we have no power.

Lake Charles is beyond help.

Fat Nick looks like a goofball asking people to shut off the faucets to build pressure. This is the state of our infrastructure.

Jesus you are a whiney frick. You lost water because they lost power for the pumps. With everyone running the faucets, they are draining the towers quickly and can not build pressure. Sure they have generators but if too much is going out, they can't keep up no matter what.

It's like you don't understand basic mechanical things.

As far as the electricity, entergy owns that, want to blame someone, blame the state government.

Nick's done a pretty good job, first through the hurricane and then through covid.

You will have water on tomorrow and had electricity by last night. Most people know to prepare and fill up their bath tubs before hand.

Also if you were smart you got a whole home generator. I personally didn't miss a beat, sat on my couch with the fire rolling while I watched Netflix movies with my kids. Pretty awesome.

If you wanna move...move. LC surely isn't the best but it isn't bad. Plenty of good restaurants and plenty of high paying jobs in the stem fields and decent schools. Everytime there is a thread that mentions LC, you are in here bitching up a storm. Well LC or any place that could get hit by hurricanes prolly isn't your cup of tee, so move.

this is my one big issue. we weren't really given warning so we couldn't take this sort of precaution

hell, our power came back on at around noon yesterday and we weren't told if we would have another shut off or not. i didn't know until i woke up this morning, seeing we had power, and entergy finally released a statement

is LC the only LA city that is having these sort of water issues?

You didn't check the forecast that it was going to be freezing weather? There was a thread on here for 10 days prior announcing it. Sorry dude, but that one is on you.

Na, any place that lost power and is experiencing freezing weather is having these issues. Mutiple surrounding cities are having the issues, although they didn't turn it off completely, more just told people a time they would be and gave everyone couple hours and then built pressure overnight.

LC has a much older water grid as it's a much older city, specifically downtown area so it is natural to have more leaks. Also they have more citizens and when everyone is home, it puts a lot more strain on the system.

These systems are not engineered to provide everyone with water at the same time. That's not how any cities system is designed.

my house was fine until they shut off the power (which then caused the water issues). they asked people not to strain the system, iirc

i understand, but the implementation of this (which goes above our mayor's head) was an utter disaster. if we have the biggest water system issues, our power should have been shut off yesterday afternoon when it was at/above freezing and sunny with warning so people could prepare and wouldn't be freaking out about frozen pipes when you wake up in the morning with temperature in the teens

I get it, I'm not saying the city did some amazing job, just wanted people to understand how it works. People have a right to bitch because we pay stupid high local taxes and high utility rates, but the constant whining of some is annoying as shite. The city should have been more prepared, but people need to understand that these systems are not designed for everyone being home and using the utilities all at once. It makes no sense to build the infrastructure that away and when it does happen, there will be issues.

In the end though, even if things are going fine, you always fill atleast one tub so you have flushing water as a just in case. I haven't lost water yet but still have a tub full. Also as soon as electricity is turned off, first thing you should do it turn water off and drain the system.

I understand this isn't like a hurricane and is many people's first go around with a winter storm in their adult life, but being without power and water for 24 hours is not that big of a deal. Everyone had plenty of time to prepare in this one. Everyone should have generators at this point to run essentials.

Unless you are elderly or have an extremely small child, this should be a drop in the bucket. Sleeping bags, heavy blankets if you don't have a fire place and have no generator. If you have one, simply put eveeyone in the room with the heater/fireplace and play cards or board games.

But this is also why you have natural gas fire place, easy heater and can still cook on it.

Texas is having much worse issues, so is much of the Midwest. This is similar to a hurricane in that ita a storm that doesn't happen but every decade and the systems aren't designed to support this kind of usage.

I reset the clocks when the generator kicked on and then again when the electricity kicked back on.

Oh and had a bath tub filled for a while just in case and took showers early as they shut water off last night for a while to build pressure.

oh I get that. that's why I was up every hour or so Monday night checking on things and I made sure to double-cover my main so that I could get to it at night if I had an emergency situation

quote:

Also as soon as electricity is turned off, first thing you should do it turn water off and drain the system.

i did do that yesterday. i don't know if the city has water b/c mine is off at the street/main

quote:

oh i'm fine. it could have been a lot worse. this rain coming above freezing is going to clear a lot of snow/ice, too. just have to hope we can maintain above freezing for today or it will be another mess

i was out breaking ice on my driveway in 1 layer yesterday for streches. i can deal with it. i got 10 gallons of drip water for toilets and have the buckets outside again catching rain.

it's just the whole planning/rollout yesterday was terrible. again, likely WAY above Hunter's head, but they've created a real big tragedy of the commons situation with the water/pressure issue now. a lot of that is from the panic people had waking up yesterday to no power/water. hell my cell phone service was utter shite yesterday morning, too.

oh this old house has a natural gas heater in the bathroom and a NG oven/top. we were prepared to cook without power

NG ovens are a requirement for any house I live in now
