FYI There is a lady in Livingston Parish who rehabs injured wild birds.
Wings of Hope Rehab in Livigston Parish

Found out about her facility when a hawk got hit by the car in front of us. Big bird was only hurt in one wing and was trying very valiantly to struggle back up out of the ditch.
Could not drive past.
Raptor rescue tip: Pack heavy gloves and a big pet carrier.

Friend who worked with the SPCA at the time recommended this Wings of Hope lady (Leslie).

From our experience she is the real deal, a small operation run out of her house. You can tell its a vocation and certainly not a money maker. She doesn't have staff to help rescue animals in the wild, but if you bring them in she is set up with the right feed and equipment to give them a chance to be released back.

She is kind of a curmudgeon about people, somehow that seems fitting to go along with her devotion to the wild animals.
I understand that she runs the place on donations and some very small grant money.

Owl allow it, but it certainly ruffles the feathers, so please don’t do it again. Is hitting an owl one of your many talons?

I hit an owl one time too. It was flying low across the road and bounced off the side window. Threw into reverse to check it out.

It got up, looked at me with an expression of “frick you …you hit me with a car you dick” shook it off and then hopped into the woods.

Bastards must be built like a tank.

Apparently it’s a really bad omen to kill an owl. Basically all cultures consider it an omen of death.

One time I hit one sitting on a bridge. It was at night and I couldn’t really see it until it turned its head, and I saw two big eyes glowing. I just plowed right into it- creepy as frick. I didn’t think much of it but someone told me it was bad luck so I just googled to see if it was true.

One week later I started coughing up blood. Doctors said they thought it was pneumonia, but I never really felt sick. Took me about a month to finally recover, several MRIs, and about 1k in medical bills.

Years ago, a buddy of mine was riding his motorcycle at night. Owl swooped down on him going about 30 mph. Spent a couple days in the hospital.

Right now that owl is trying to report that you hit him and nobody believes him.

“I was out flying around at night trying to get something to eat and some MAGA jerk in a pickup clobbered me!!!”

I did the same thing on Burbank one night. After speaking with LSU and Wildlife and fisheries I decided to leave it be. mainly because I was told they have massive claws and tend to go for your face! Went back the next morning and he was gone.

Had it happen to me a few years ago.
It was dusk and I was driving down I-10 past Port Allen going West.
An owl came out from the back of a road sign toward my truck and knocked out my headlight to my truck on the passenger side.
Stopped to check the damage and the owl flew back up to rest behind the interstate road sign he came out from.
Tore up the passenger side drivers light lens.
