Pulling up to the hunting lease before daylight there was one sitting in the road that didn’t move as I passed. Went back and looked at it and it was bloody on one side of his face from getting hit. Shoved him off the road with a stick and went hunting. Came out and it was gone. A week or two later I came out of the woods after dark in the evening, and there was a single eye shining in my head light. It was the owl, now one-eyed, sitting on the sign-in board. But he made it

I shot an owl while dove hunting about 50 years ago. He fell dead as the egret I had shot earlier.
I cut off one of his talons and hung it from my rear view mirror. I left a tendon sticking out so I could open and close his talons. Chicks called me “claw.”
