You obviously didn't grow up picking cotton for your survival.

I have retired now, but you would not have done well in my department when I was working, I typically like no waves on the pond!

Some folks like to crest chaos so they can be the hero and solve the problem. Others just like the sense of urgency that comes with chaos. This is why you need diversity in work styles in every workgroup.

Now…I will go back to being retired!

I was a combat arms Abrams tank crewmember for 22 years and did more than my share of fighting, fricking and hellraising.

Now I just want some peace and quiet and leisurely activities like fishing and woodworking.

Everyone deserves and needs a break now and then

But I do like challenging myself

challenge yourself and Chaos or two completely different things

Somebody that enjoys chaos in their life brings chaos to everybody who knows them everybody that's in their sphere it's a destructive addiction

A lot of people on here complain about women doing that as drama queens

It’s probably important to know why you do things in life. You should reflect on your mission in life.

your reputation proceeds you so you are getting clowned as usual, but you are right. Modern America has sacrificed happiness and fulfillment for convenience. Small “hardships” self inflicted if necessary are one of the secrets to a life well fulfilled

Small hardships…reject technology and convenience when you really don’t need it. Knobs and bells are fine you don’t need touchscreens and WiFi on everything in your house. Turn the AC up to 78 and turn on a fan or two. Drive with the windows down. Wash dishes by hand. Dry your clothes on a clothesline. Make sun tea. Ignore the weeds. Cultivate a messy natural yard. Go barefoot.

engage with the world and make certain it requires some effort out of you

This might be the most pat-myself-on-the-back post I’ve ever seen. “I worked hard to live comfortably, but I’m still such a hard grinder that I miss the struggle.” It’s an insult to people who actually have the same work ethic, but haven’t been as fortunate. You sound like a liberal politician.

When I lived in Dallas he refused to train with me.

Maybe he is me, just a lot shorter and leaner but lives in my head.

Maybe he didn't refuse to train with me but I refused to train with myself.

Interesting.

Nah, not that at all.

Because without a struggle and fight I let everything go to ruin. Finances, relationships, etc.

It's a endless cycle that i desperately want to break.

We are the sum of our choices, nothing more. But the choices I make during comfortable times is something I want to break.

I'd love to love a peaceful life, i really would.

That's apparently not my lot in life. People/situations etc. Seem to seek me out. There is always some struggle I'm in the middle of. I'm becoming exceedingly good at coming out on top.

Latest example, I own a piece of property in a place with an HOA. The mismanagement of the HOA has made my property unsellable. Now I have to unravel that.

Damn, I'm the seeker. I destroy everything I touch after a period of time because I feel uneasy with stability and coasting.

The HOA situation sounds like it is probably a nightmare. Sorry.

I respectfully disagree. I’ve experienced plenty of hardships throughout my life, and I certainly don’t feel the need to intentionally create more, especially now that I’ve retired for the second time.

I believe challenges will naturally come our way, and they can certainly help us grow, but I don’t see the value in seeking out unnecessary hardship and the added stress it can bring. For me, this season of life is about appreciating the blessings God has given me, enjoying the peace that comes with them, and using my time and energy in meaningful ways.
