I am a man of faith, so it's not about any inner spiritual struggle. For me, ever since I was in high school, this time of year has been filled with low and depressing thoughts. As I now approach 60, it only gets worse. I hate to admit it, but I really do hate Christmas, and I wish I could fast forward through January and February.
My prayers for anyone struggling with this same situation.

For many, this stems from unrealistic expectations and comparison of their lives to others.

Choose gratitude. Choose joy.

For whatever reason, I'm sorry this isn't a joyful time for you.

make the holiday less about what joy you get from it and more about what joy you can give because of it.

sometimes I sit back and wonder if I'll be posting on Tigerdroppings at age 60. I'm only 33 right now.

took me a while to get the Christmas spirit. I had a pretty rough childhood, with many holidays being completely fricked up. But my wife absolutely loves this time of year, and over the years, she has helped me enjoy this time of year more and more.

sounds like the holidays bring up some bad memories for you as well. I hope you find peace, friend.

apparently not very strong faith or you'd have overcome your low and depressing thoughts by now, no? Maybe you should seek medical help.

you don't give a shite about anyone else or you wouldn't be posting this at this time. You are selfish and want to ruin everyone else's good cheer. Seek professional help for your thoughts and quit trying to bring everyone else down to your level.

Merry Christmas.

You could always do some charity work or something to try and boost your spirits. Doing good for the community should help lift you up. Maybe something through the Salvation Army or a local shelter.

Although probably not a good idea to post your feelings on Christmas on such a polarized site as TD, I can understand your emotions at this time of year. You probably need to talk to a professional about this depression because Christmas will come around every year at the same time. And if it's getting worse, then there's no time like the present to go talk to someone/get help.

I can get that way in January/February...the times when it seems like the most people in my family have passed away. But I don't let it get to me...I have to live...the other alternative kinda sucks.

I did too when I was young, because of how my family handled the holiday. Now that I'm grown and I control how the holidays go, I love it. Sorry you went wrong somewhere along the way

Believe it or not that's a common sentiment this time of the year, and for as many reasons as there are people. My prayers are with you.

Assuming you WANT to lift out of it, why don't you use your time to lend a hand to someone in need, either volunteering time or making a financial donation with an organization, or hell, just helping someone load their groceries in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Sometimes that's all it takes. Anything big or small. If nothing else maybe it'll get you through to January or February.

Good luck.
