this whole season is terrible and now it's 3x as long as when i was a kid
adults who freak out over Christmas like they're kids aren't the worst, but they're annoying
the expectations of Christmas don't affect me personally but watching them affect others does make me feel for those people. there is a veneer of happiness but that's mostly fake or repetition/nostalgia. it's easy to see all the misery, sadness, loneliness, and depression if you get through the paper-thin exterior shell of fake joy
and the music fricking sucks

Sure there's the cynical side of too much commercialism and rats running through a corporate maze of stress, but there's the sentimental family side of the equation too. Because we move all over for work and live to work in this country, it's the one time of year that people go out of their way and put work on hold to shift their focus to family. Now if you don't like your family or still live with your family then I can see you not seeing much to like in Christmas. But when you do actually like and miss your family and it's the one time of year you can visit them and have them actually be off work too when you visit unlike the summer, it really can be a wonderful time of the year. Hectic surely, but full of creating new memories with people you love and care about a lot more than the chuckle heads you spend most of your waking hours with at work.
