Costco is cheaper than most eye glass places in the USA that are part of the luxottica cartel.
Costco is basically the second biggest in the USA, since luxottica owns everything else.
Also why sunglasses are so expensive, and it's isn't improved quality

Where did you go for your exam? All of the Lenscrafters and Pearl Vision spots are owned by Luxottica. They also own EyeMed Vision Care. And they own Essilor, one of the largest lensmakers. They also own over 100 brands. Glasses cost $400- $500 bucks on average because this business model inflates the cost vertically. Having said that, I sort of collect luxury eyewear and the last pair of sunglasses I bought were $750.

I couldn't really tell you which of the chain spots to go to. I always go to high-end independent shops or order glasses from the manufacturer. But any of the Zenni, Warby Parker type of places, online or brick and mortar, should have decent, inexpensive stuff. Another thing they don't advertise is the fact that the cheapo brands and the name brand frames are often made in the same Chinese factories.

Welcome to my world. Back in the day, i could get eyeglasses and scrip sunglasses, name brand for a thousand+/-. For the past 10yrs I order on line. Uually from Frames Direct to get similar price and name quality

Yeah, i made that 700$ mistake. Got home and was pleased at seeing more detail far away. But then could only read at a very specific length. Put them in a drawer and never used again.

I’m an optometrist and work at a couple of Walmart Vision Centers. I have bought glasses from Walmart and Warby Parker and like them both. Walmart’s frames max out around $150 and single vision lenses I think are less than $100. Where they get you is the progressive bifocals that cost I think $300 for just the lenses themselves.
