It’s more the 18 wheelers with speed governors attempting to pass another 18 wheeler going the same exact speed (65-70 ish) causing a rolling road block. This tends to cause a chain reaction of people behind them doing anything necessary to get around them

Guess there needs to be “Prepare to stop” signs every 50 ft. You should always be prepared to stop by being able to stop if necessary. It’s not complicated.

another cause is people following way way too close together - especially 18 wheelers

That fire isn't stopping. Maybe they let it burn or have a ways to get. I'm not questioning what they're doing, but even after the water tank truck arrived its been burning strong.

Looks like they're starting to take witness statements. Cops positioned up near the front cars now.

You can expect I-10 to be closed a WHILE. With fires on bridges, they have to put the fire out, finish the investigation (which takes forever if there's a fatality), clear the accident, then they're going to have to send some structural engineers out to make sure the bridge hasn't been compromised by the fire, and that's not something best done in the middle of the night or in the rain.

If you have to head that direction in the next day or two, you'd better be planning ahead to take 90 or 190, just in case.

This isn't news worthy. It's more rare that there isn't multiple wrecks on that Godforsaken stretch of highway.

This same shite happens endlessly. Minor wreck causes a major wreck with fatalities and 18 wheeler fires. I avoid the basin bridge if I can.

They've just closed I10 Eastbound at I49 in Lafayette.

And Google Maps is showing I-10 WB closed at LA-415 with traffic already backed up to the bridge.

LET THE BATON ROUGE frickERY BEGIN! We're going to be in total dysfunction for an accident 25 miles away from the city.

Just wait until Friday. Holiday weekend so the bridge and most likely the basin will have wrecks

It’s easier to navigate to 190 from I-10 at 415 than it is from the Gross Tete exit. Actually a smart move there.

I just saw a video of the wreck(s). It looks really bad, don't think the interstate will be open in the morning.

Half mile evac order issued. Treating it as a hazmat issue now.

Gon be a while. Maybe one day we will master driving in a straight line and utilizing cruise control.

That’s because one of the tankers involved is carrying flammable hazmat
