Cut out some of the corruption and bureaucratic red tape and this can happen.

You will be pleased to learn that work will begin on the 210 bridge to re-deck the middle span of the bridge later this year. It will take 3 years, and reduce traffic to one lane in both directions. Only in Louisiana would local government chose to renovate a interstate bridge that was rated as in good condition before replacing one that should have already been closed due to its hazardous condition.

I’ve always heard it will be an environmental nightmare if they ever try to do it. I also don’t feel the condition is as bad as the 3 year old radio station Facebook post that gets floated around from time to time.

Central crude is also north of the river bridge and there’s a small refinery right past Loggerheads. I don’t think the bridge needs to be that high, but there is still traffic that it will need to accommodate.

They did. They repainted the pistol guard rails a few years ago because looks is what's important, not structural integrity. The entire structure is being held together with paint and bubble gum.

I recall the EDC leak. I was working at a nearby industry where EDC was used as a feedstock for Vinyl Chloride production. We were told that the loading line to the barge had over twenty clamps. Pretty sad.

Word was here the spans on 210 were found to be made out of the incorrect material spec and have got to be replaced.
My grandfather worked building that bridge and told my mother it was done incorrectly down to the footings. He never would drive over it and chose i10 instead.
Makes me wonder if now he was correct about the footings being shite too since the span is already being replaced due to faulty material.
I'd love to hear if that is correct or not.

issues with this bridge project
1. i've heard, but never gotten confirmation, that there is one company with a dock or something past the bridge that may use boats that require a higher bridge design. this business is minority-owned and it's become a racial thing
2. the biggest real issue is disrupting the EDC that's in the soil under the bridge. this has always been the limiting factor on replacing the bridge and why progress is so slow
3. they have to build a bridge while leaving this one open, and 210 is already about to undergo years of work. the logistics are just a nightmare. it's not feasible to not have this bridge open, though, due to the plants right on the other side of the water

this is not true. DOTD is always inspecting that bridge
it has a bad rating b/c of how high it is and the angle of ascent/descent. an article with that ratings gets shared on social media every couple months as a scare tactic, but the bridge is not about to fall down
