the good ol Rainbow Bridge.
My wife's family lived there back in the 50's/60's and my FIL told good stories about traveling that bridge in icy conditions in his ol VW

This is the problem in Mobile, Al trying to replace the Mobile River tunnel with a bridge. They have federal funding, but the state won't provide any funding. So now, they're looking for private funding to build a toll bridge on the middle of I-10.
It's a lot of bullshite, imo.

I was born there. But my dad was an engineer (civil, geotechnical, environmental). The cancer and pollution in that area 30+ years ago was particularly insane.
Once the phosgene plant leaked in the mid 80s, and they didn't tell anyone, so me and dozens of kids spent weeks in the hospital, we got the frick out.

Early in my oilfield career I had to drive out to Sabine Pass to catch a 5AM crewboat. I drove over the Rainbow Bridge around 3AM and I passed a guy walking up the east side of the bridge. I found out from some of the other crew who were behind me on the same highway that the guy jumped off the top of the bridge. So it's very likely I was the last person who saw him alive. That bridge creeps me out to this day because of that.

La 3241 is supposed to break ground this year AFTER being approved almost 30 years ago! La DOTD and USACE are beyond hopeless.
