Fortunate that area is fairly sparse compared to so much of the Florida coast.

There’s a town called Mayo not far inland that changed its name to Miracle Whip once, thanks to a Kraft promotion.

I bet the difference between 130 mph & 120 mph @ Keaton Beach isn't really noticeable.

sparse, but very vulnerable. I really hope these people got out, but that's not likely the case for a lot of them.

I appreciate it the streams but I haven’t seen one yet that is all that impressive. Either the chasers aren’t where the real shite is, or the wind impacts are going to be relatively moderate.

I am down in Polk County. We got a little wind and rain, not as bad as promised. I have a few limbs to pick up, and zero flooding.

Those dudes seem like they are BSing. Claiming they are seeing 100 mph winds and near the eyewall but it's not raining much and the trees are not bending much. Driving up road pretty easily.

precisely why the difference is academic. a 5mph drop before landfall makes no difference whatsoever in terms of destructive capabilities.

Fox Weather is showing shitloads of flooding footage from Clearwater, up. Has anybody heard from The Ocean, or that UF Baw that thinks cancelling the game was necessary?

possibly, but gusts, not sustained. they're between salem and perry so basically right inside the eye

edit: they're also clearly amateurs who have no idea what they're doing, so you are right

#Idalia becomes the first Category 3+ storm to strike Taylor County, #Florida on record dating to 1851.

It is one of 21 hurricanes known to strike Florida with at least 125 mph winds.

Florida has recorded four =125 mph landfall events since 2017 (Irma, Michael, Ian, Idalia).

Perry, FL about to get raked with the northern eye wall which looks eerily similar in structure to Hurricane Sally's northern eye wall (with virtually no southern eye) when it made landfall in Baldwin County.

Idalia coming in at 125 as opposed to Sally's 105 but the eyewall structure of both hurricanes at landfall looks almost identical.

Wouldn't be suprised to see a 100+ mph wind gust out of that northern eyewall band in Perry, FL

Good. Keep it that way. I saw where Bradenton got some rain and some good wind last night.

We wont see what we are going to see over here in Amelia Island till this afternon. For now, just some 25mph winds and big waves
