So we found the meteorologist that is using a more scientific “stick method.”

Follow the path over over time. Draw a line to where it may go as reference point to help you understand the impact of of the storm if you are in the path.

Zero evidence* and they were looking hard.

150 was correct. You in Houma got the shitshow of the mesovorticies rounding the eye. Pretty much the nightmare scenario that doesnt involve surge.

Similar, but Laura was closer I think.

The hurricane hunters we're doing passes up to the last minute looking for Cat 5 winds. Never found any that werent flagged as likely bad data.

The difference between an high end 4 like Laura/Ida and a 5 like Michael is mostly academic.

Nothing to really suggest it on recon, and the radar doesn’t have that classic second ring closed off around the eye.

I argue we just got a spiral band coming around and feeding into the eyewall.

No double maxes that ive seen on recon either.

I'm not an expert, but nothing is jumping out to me on that radar to suggest that

I don't think Laura made a five. Along with what you mentioned about the flagged wind readings and the numerous field measurements, they had plenty, but just didn't get there for the bump.

I rode it out here in Houma and she was no joke.

You all got raked by the eye wall with no relief from getting in the eye, and not by a typical hurricane eye. What you all got was a bunch of mesovorts within that eye, like small tornadoes. It was evident on the first satellite passes that came out afterward. A good bit of that damage looked like tornado damage, not typical eye wall wind damage.

I'm convinced the same thing happens to the bank building in Lake Chuck with Laura.

Hope people in Tallahassee are taking this serious. Things can change fast. Know lots of people in St. Charles Parish for Ida that didn’t evacuate and I can tell you they regretted it. Prayers to everyone that’s about to experience this.
