My mom is in Englewood and wants to stick it out. We tried to tell her to leave yesterday. They are afraid to get stuck in traffic for hours and they don't want to leave their home. It's crazy and she's not listening..
I’d go south if they do decide to leave.
Depends on her elevation how dangerous staying will be.

Tell that to the people in France. Projecting inland flooding as far as Germany Thursday!

The HAFS-B model has been really high on Milton's peak intensity. But every model has been way underestimating the actual intensity.
It’s been the closest so far to the actual intensity
I think it was the only model two days ago showing Milton getting below 920mb

Traffic is nuts and getting worse by the minute here. I would take my chances at Disney vs. worrying about getting stuck without gas on the side of the interstate.
I'm 40 miles from the gulf in Hillsborough County and I am sticking around. I don't want to cause worse traffic issues for those in evacuation zones. I know it's going to suck and will suck for a while, but everyone running for the exits at the same time is going to just make everything worse. There are people who are risking their life if they don't evacuate. I am risking not having power for a couple of weeks. I don't want to be part of the reason anyone decides to turn around and ride it out in a place with storm surge risk.

I got called up for military stuff so won't be home during the storm. My brother is coming over to ride it out with my family. We're flood zone A here on the water in Tampa but we're 8 feet raised and it's a three story home with hurricane windows. Just need to make sure I can find enough gas/water for a week.
Best of luck to everyone

Gonna be real candid here
I’ve lived on the coast my entire life. Several different spots. I’ve been through the worst and some minor with several in between.
For the first time in a long time, I’m having thoughts of moving to higher ground.
It’s getting tiresome.

You need to tell her you’d like to FaceTime her with your kids if you have them so you/they can see her one last time. Maybe that’ll wake her up
You sound like a character out of a movie, a shitty movie at that

My gf’s brother is in Disney with his family.
They’re staying.
I told her I’d be in a car immediately driving home.
People in Florida go TO Disney during the storms to ride them out. Not really in this situation as much where its going to be right over Disney, but still. Its probably the best place you could be if you're going to be down that way.

This is a damn 6 if there was ever that high of category.

I have family in Orlando and they are getting the hell out - I suggest the poster at Disney do likewise

Come on in, the water’s fine!
Left Pearl River in ‘88. No regrets!

A very practical take. Kudos.

I hear ya, but no where on our continent is immune to freakish weather events or natural disasters. The most damage from the last hurricane was in Appalachian mountains

Are you by alpha pizza house? Or whatever it’s call now?
Best of luck to you and the fam.

I might be misremembering about the transmission of data but I know there are calibration issues ongoing.
Posted on 10/7/24 at 1:51 pm to deltaland
I'm pretty sure it was, but Milton is still majorly outpacing that model.
Posted on 10/7/24 at 1:52 pm to Duke
Yeah sounds like the data isn’t trustworthy at the moment but is still reporting for future calibration. Interesting.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t realize they used sea surface temps in the first place.

They are aboot to see something they have never seen before. This is going to make Ian, Irma, and Helene look like a toy.
There are a couple of little hotels in Clewiston. Much safer to bail. Englewood is getting the banhammer.
