There were people calling for NHC's head on a pike for Helene, which did almost exactly what they said it would do.

f it’s a surge false alarm for Tampa people are going to be pissed - which makes no sense to me when the proper feeling would be blessed.

I mean, if a doctor says to have terminal cancer then four days later says, nah "I just read the wrong report".

You can be happy and pissed at the same time.

The farther south it goes, then surge becomes an issue for the Ft Myers area.

For all the people in this thread that have loved ones staying in areas with significant storm surge risk, please get them to at least have a life jacket for everyone in the house and an axe available if they are caught in the attic.

That’s a good point.

Sustained 165 mph winds is almost hard to imagine.

The storm has been tracking east and maybe even south of due east, rather than the expected ENE

It moved south of east earlier today, but it’s been moving north of east for several hours now.

It really is. I watch all of the storm chasers when these storms roll through and the power is just unbelievable.

Watching Laura pound LC was fricking WILD.

Really curious to see how much the wind field has expanded when recon goes in. For reference this is what it was at 9am:

It was very similar in size to Andrew.

NHC seems to be getting more defensive and crawfishy in their discussions

I think they kind of have to when people are tracking a Cat. 5 hurricane at street level. The same thing happened with Ian when Tampa was spared, but people to the south who were always in a shitty/dangerous situation acted like they had no warning.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of these latest models like at all. Selfishly hopes it turns even further south away from Sarasota, but that's also hard as a lot of them had huge damage from Ian. Maybe the wind shear will just kick Milton in the arse and calm it down.

Until Milton gets fully out of its turn there will be added uncertainty. But pretty much keeping on track so far.

It looks like this thing is going to roll right up Tampa Bay as a Cat 5.
