Not sure there needs to be any underlying reasoning to a "hype/ freakout" when a Cat 5 with 165 sustained winds that is still intensifying, is bearing down on the coast of Florida. Pretty sure that is plenty to freak out about on its own

Not saying that Milton won't have significant impacts but just suggesting the mass evacuation/hype is being affected by the recency of Helene although Helene's most severe impacts were from rain and not wind.
If Helene had not existed, this storm screams evacuation. There’s no hype here, this is legit get the frick out of the way.

The surreal calm before the literal storm.

Okay, yeah, I know. But it likely won't be a category five at landfall and NHC predicts a very small wind field. I understand the concern about storm surge going into Tampa and those folks that are in low lying areas should GTFO and away from the coast but I'm suggesting the hype is similar to Rita after everyone saw Katrina.

Yes. Absolutely.

Me and the boys are riding Milton out on this thing:

Nah if it’s a false alarm for Tampa, Tampa people are going to be thanking their lucky stars because 20-40 miles south of Tampa will look like a hydrogen bomb went off

You could go 155mph in a sailboat right now. Thatd be a ride.

In Louisiana, some of the prettiest weather we get is the day before and after storms.

Is this thing moving further south or north of Tampa?

Do people outside of SWLA not think that Rita caused devastation or something?

The morning after a hurricane is always beautiful.

Loaded up the generator. Brought all the shite from the yard inside. We're ready to rock

Never said that. I even mentioned that Milton will cause significant impacts, like Rita did.
But Rita's evacuation was the largest in U.S. history and was largely influenced by what everyone saw with Katrina.
