It was a short call but here's the overview of the main points Gov Scott hit:

12 foot storm surge in keys expected.
Shelters are set up in every county with mandatory evacuation
5.6 million citizens in evacuation zones, pushing shelters hard - if state asks county to open a shelter you better open it.
Expecting large storm surges in general along coastal areas.
Working hard for fuel. Ports closing so no more fuel until after storm at this point. Trying to bring resources from panhandle. Main concern is fuel along evac routes at this point.

He handled this extremely well, gave out his personal cell number and told county commissioners to call him with any request.

Pressure slowly drops going forward but limited by Cuba interaction. Not enough to really weaken it, as NHC at 5 explained, but at least enough to keep it from bombing.

Is it expected to turn back northwest in the next few hours? If not then it will make landfall at Cuba and that could start to weaken it significantly

So in the land of the bizarre, South Carolina's governor just announced mandatory evacuations for Beaufort, Colleton and Jasper counties.

Brother finally decided to check into a hotel in Tampa instead of riding it out at the house.

It'll be interesting too see if Tampa gets any of the eye wall, they might miss it by a few miles.

Well that's true, but either they are hearing something or it really makes no sense. They must be hearing some bad news about storm surge for this area because we are out of the cone now.

The whole idea is totally dependant on how much if any landfall happens in Cuba. More inland, more weak.

Irma looks like its gonna bring Cat 4/5 shite winds.

We have posters in here that are going to be in the middle of the worse Shiticane the Atlantic has ever produced.

Have we set up Periscope sessions yet?

What about West bay to bay and Manhattan?

There is a Quick stop on S. Manhattan, about 5 blocks north of west bay that had gas last night at 8:07. I do not know about now.

Riding the pine on this one but I am about 20-25 miles north.

Each news station has a meteorologist giving a different path. I am going to let the one who is right continue to walk without a limp.

Zone A is mandatory evac in Manatee and Pinellas counties. Zone A is lowest elev and most likely to be flooded; closely proximate to open water. I hope your uncle is ok.

Who knows. I wasn't abrasive until the simple factual thing I said was met with an abrasive reaction.
