Dear Lord. I can't imagine being stranded there as a tourist or living there as a resident during this thing.

I've always wanted to travel to some of these islands ... I always thought when our dtr graduated (junior this year) from hs that we'd be "free" to do these things. I hope that somehow damage is minimal and that they can get back to their normal quickly.

On one hand, it seems to be good new for the most people that it's tracking a little further east, unfortunately that does nothing for all my friends in Charleston.
I know this is speculation, but I am currently 110 miles inland (Columbia), is there a scenario that I should consider evacuating?

Possibly, but you'll know alot more in a few days.

Not sure, but most of these islands avoided sustained category 5 winds.
Did't St. Marten actually fit entirely in the eye? If they missed it, where are the Cat 5 winds then? Is that max windfield possibly as small as 5 miles?

Just saw some video from St. Martin on TWC and while there was flooding, most buildings seemed to still be standing at least
A lot of those islands build structures out of concrete. They can withstand much greater wind speeds than standard stud wall construction.

No way that guy was in anything more than 70 mph winds, if that. He wasn't leaning and struggling like Cantore and Seidel do in tropical depressions.

No shite fricktards!!!!!!! Damn I hate watching MSM during these events!! I get and know more about these storms from the OT then I ever get from the MSM!!! Only reason I even watch them is for the occasional live feeds that they may show. I need Jeff's periscope site, and the OT only!!!
Do you guys think that the news will ever stop trying drive up ratings and actually just report the news??
At some point people are going to get fed up with the fear mongering, #fakenews, and over sensationalizing of events, and stop watching these 'productions'....right? It has to happen eventually, correct?

Also keep in mind that St Barth & St. Maarten aren't Haiti. They are modern locations that have a lot of buildings that are built to withstand these storms since it's probably an annual occurance. Doesn't mean they can avoid flooding and other damage, but don't expect it look like a nuke just annihalated the places off the map.

What are you talking about? To be inside the eye, they had to pass through the eyewall. To get out, they had to pass through the eyewall a second time. I was responding to someone who said they didn't see the big winds.

Yea bro, because your hypothetical/potential vacation that you may or may not take in a few years is what's important right now

What are you banging your head for? If you're in the eye, it means you passed through the eyewall.

Irma is going due West. There is no northerly component in that radar loop.
Puerto Rico about to get the D.

Just an update. I know a good amount of people who were stuck just south of where the eye wall passed/is passing. It is definitely no joke but a good bit still have water/electricity/cell service. Everyone is still safe.
