Disney said yesterday that they were closing at 3 pm today.
They have changed it to 7 pm.

Why is anything in FL closed? The whole state is shut down.

They have told their employees that thought they were going home at 3 that it will be 7.
I am in "Poke" County and am getting intermittent high winds, and it just started raining. I would guess one gust was close to 30, but am down to about 3 mph now.

The guy who posted this video from the inside of his home which was built 15 feet off the ground has not been heard from. He had a wife, child and at least one dog.
God, I hope they're okay. In one video, he was talking with a friend who was elsewhere. She posted some hours ago asking if anyone had heard from the family.

Wonder if you somehow had a metal shipping container connected at the top of 4 70 feet beams that were hammered 40 feet into the earth and container sat 30 feet in air, if that could survive the storm.

I see we're still trying to push that this is more than a Cat 2 as of now. OP, please update thread title. Dorian is no longer a major hurricane.

I am going to surmise that all the blown out walls and paneling at ground level are indicative of the storm surge that went through the buildings.
Thoughts?

Probably fare better than these shipping containers did. Seriously though I think it would depend on the strength of those steel beams, wind direction, and speed of wind.
Posted on 9/3/19 at 2:45 pm to MrLSU
was that a fish outside a car window at the end?
Posted on 9/3/19 at 2:45 pm to MrLSU
the structure of those containers seem intact for most part that you could "survive" at least.

I'd reinforce with kickouts at the head of the container.
Also would depend on the welds and steel framing design for shear load.
Eta: Field test it with a Jet Engine. Rate it for that.
Eta: cut out a hole up top, add a clear dome housing a webcam with satellite link. Stream Cat 5 with porn ads......bank.

I am not a structural engineer but have thought about this. I think if you welded big gusset plates at every corner and put 8 guide cables around it, you would be OK. You would also need another structure to protect your generator and a/c.
