You are looking at satellite photos of the island before Dorian and then during Dorian. A large percentage of the island flooded.

Damn there has to be massive loss of life there .....that is incredible (in a bad way obviously)

How did they get a satellite photo of the cloud covered island?

It appears that the twitter posts that claimed Josh Morgerman was ok were third person at best, and there seems to a be a lot of concern from other chasers that he is still unaccounted for.

vast majority of that island is below 23 feet elevation - so below the level of storm surge.
Been there once - don't recall any significant elevation at all honestly.
Feel for those people. Anyone who has been through a hurricane knows the stress of listening to those winds - I can't even imagine listening for as long as those Bahamians have now endured.

I'm guessing there is nothing left at Disney's Castaway Cay
From what my daughter tells me (she’s a giant Disney fanatic and has channels of communication with people there) anyhow they got some tropical storm force wind and minimal hurricane wind. But otherwise are fine. Gourda Cay is about 40mi south of the storm track, so that makes sense.

This thing isn't gonna affect the US one bit except for premature doomsday predictions from certain higher ups that got everyone in a tizzy for no fricking reason.

Maybe it's estimates.
I guess it should read a representation of a satellite photo.
Not sure.

It still could be a possibility but TWC gets over dramatic. Sometimes I wonder if they are hoping at times that it will hit somewhere so they can get that impact footage.

You can see the shoreline in the flood picture. It's outlined to where it is supposed to be.
The blue green represents the sea water.

Of course they do. Higher ratings = job security
Doom and gloom is what they are looking for.
And it’s not only TWC

Same thing happens on all 24/7 news channels. They hope something bad happens so they can get viewers. More viewers = more money

I just had a pop up from the weather channel saying that Dorian is growing in size again. I didn’t click on it in time so I didn’t get any further details.
Not certain, but they probably mean it is expanding. This is true because the hurricane does expand/spread out as it weakens, and the hurricane force winds (while weaker) do extend out further from the center.
This sounds weird, but when a hurricane is well-organized with a well-defined eye and is very strong, the hurricane force winds are generally more confined to the center than when it is weaker and less organized.
