the LSU facility is top notch

We must have different standards for swimming facilities. The Nat at LSU is terrible. The pool is fast, the facility sucks. It’s embarrassing. Get out and see some real top notch facilities (UGA, Tenn, UT, Ga Tech, Mizzou, Minn, Indy… pretty much any high school in Texas or Indiana, etc). It’ll blow your mind. Even Tupelo, MS has a half decent facility.

SPAR isn’t much better though. Glad I only have to attend 1 more meet there in February. And then back to The Nat for a week of swamp arse in the summer.

Why does Sulphur get to host the meet every year over LSU's nat?

Rick Bishop (LSU head coach) told me he tried to get the meet moved to LSU, but LHSAA didn’t want any part of that. They have some kind of deal with SPAR.

There’s talk of a facility to be built on the west bank. But I’ll be really surprised if it ever materializes.

Will they write a policy while the volcano is awake? Maybe between rumbling and idle?

Don’t know who would want that house. I’m sure it’s tainted with some kind of gris gris, bad mojo, whatever.
Rob Pirello spent all of 2023 and 2024 telling us that 100+ days were going to be the new norm. Alarmist…
If you’re staying or fishing out of Gaston’s I recommend Paul Jones or Brandon Hudson. I’ve been fishing with Paul for 20 years. Just started fishing with Brandon 2 years ago. He learned the river from his father and Mr Paul.

Carl Jones (Paul’s brother) is very good too. I believe he’s independent. I fished with him back in the 1980s when I was a kid.

February is an amazing time of year to fish. It can be cold as hell. If there’s a big shad kill coming through the dam it’s lights out. We fished in Feb about 11 years ago during an ice storm. 6° lows and 18° highs. Foot of snow. Browns were going nuts on shad. We fished 3 days and landed 15-20 Browns each day. We fished in 1-1.5 hr increments and headed back to the lodge to warm up.
Same cat was seen in Terrebonne parish today as well. Damn big gato negro certainly is covering some ground quickly.
48, I push myself hard. I just roll with the aches and pains. Beware, however, bicep tendons snap very easily at this age. So also exercise a bit of caution in what you do. Try not to get yourself into a bind.
Cats…
Pedro eats fried chicken (Rouses is his go-to fried chicken), steak, pork chop, & fish like it’s going out of style. Pedro ate a pile of baked red snapper last night.

Waffles will fight you for any kind of sweets with icing. He’s especially nuts for almond (wedding) cake.

Other 2 cats (Lucy & Pablo) aren’t remotely interested in anything for human consumption.
Car talk was great. Tappet Bros!
Otherwise, won’t miss shite.
Been watching his journey since the start. I happen to be in Tupelo for a swim meet and went over to Fulton Lock and cheered him on there yesterday. He’s a tough dude.

re: Hardest decision of my life.

It is indeed a tough decision. I’ve had to do it a few times now. The last one was the hardest. Socks had a special bond with us. Particularly my son and I. And the fact that he was attached to my son made it really tough. The best thing I could tell myself is that he was suffering, hungry, dehydrated and his lymphoma had gotten to a point that there was no getting better. Just let the poor fella go to sleep peacefully.

The universal cat distribution system will drop another on your doorstep soon.

I thought Rigolets but that is a roughly 60mi trip one way. Pass Christian or Gulfport is only about 35mi. but it is open water for about 12-15mi and that would be the only part that would remotely concern me even though I have farther across open water fishing out of Theriot. The submerged islands is the real concern out there.

Rigolets is a 13 mi open water stretch across Lake Borgne and then a 25 mi stretch from what’s left of the Biloxi Marsh to the Chandeliers.

I laughed when I read this headline. I just saw Book of Mormon last week. This topic is covered throughout the production.

It's not from a movie.

Yes and yes. It was a common phrase on news casts. But they satirized it plenty in The Kentucky Fried Movie.

Most probably have not seen the movie.
I had an acute rupture of my right biceps long head and SLAP tear to go with it back in October. Was in surgery within 5 days. Biceps tendodesis through 1.5” incision in front of my armpit, SLAP repair & shave acromion were done arthroscopic. Post op wasn’t bad at all. Ice water pump was great. Percocet was not near as effective as 2 Tylenol every 6 hours. Slept in the bed on night 4 post surgery. I couldn’t sleep
Worth a damn in the recliner and felt like I might hurt myself getting out of it during the night.

Started PT 3 days after surgery. Wore brace 24/7 for 2 weeks (took off for PT and shower). Then week 3 wore brace during the day if I was up and moving and all night, but took it off if I was sitting on the couch. Made sure to support arm with pillow. Week 4 they let me ditch the brace during the day, but keep hand in pocket for support. Still wore brace to sleep. Week 5 I wore the brace at night too.

Did PT for 5 months. I started back swimming in January. PT said swimming was an amazing opportunity for the rehab process. After 12 weeks of PT it basically turned from physical therapy to personal training. He had me doing lots of combination exercise/movements with as much weight and reps as I felt comfortable doing (within reason, of course).

Currently 6 months post op. Full range of motion. Strength is about 85% of what I was before. Swimming as fast as I was pre-accident. Swim 15,000yds/week. Arm is fine for fishing. Doing light weights, zero issues. He told me no press or pull downs behind the neck…. Forever on. Preferably dumbbell military press, no bar. Haven’t tried golf yet. Haven’t tried to shoot a shotgun yet. It does feel slightly different than my other arm. Not painful, just different. I do get a little pain in the actual bicep reattachment spot when I dive into the pool. Hopefully that goes away in 6 more months.

Had to miss 7 weeks of work. When I started back I had some limitations. Lots of popping and clicking when I reached for instruments or even just using my right arm/hand during procedures. I have zero limitations on work now. Pops & clicks are almost gone.

Wow. Used the quart of blood technique on that dude

Karate man bruise on the inside.
The whole thing is a slippery slope for the kid. Had he bowed up and engaged the a-hole capt physically, he was outmanned 4:1. So suppose he was actually the fighting type and he gets the greatest charter guide on the ropes or in a choke hold; now he’s got the other 3 coming to their baw’s aid.

If he pops a cap in the great capt’s arse when he rushed aboard, he’d better be ready to shoot those other 3 retards if they rush. And God forbid they don’t open fire on him! Then it’s a huge mess. The whole thing sucks, and just illustrates how crazy and uncivil people have become.
