this storm is reminiscent of the super typhoons that you see all over the western pacific, surreal to see it on this side

Are there any planes in the storm at this time?

Watching the weather channel.

Mistake #1, but understandable.

quote:

They are showing the current and future projected radar of the hurricane with a “max gusts” reader for Marsh Harbor, various points of Abaco Island, and then Freeport, etc for tomorrow. The maximum gusts they were showing for any part of the Bahamas today & tomorrow was in the 70-90mph gust range.

This is why they're a joke.

So they are on their roofs with no place to go and the real storm is about to hit? There could be huge loss of life.

The latest 12Z HWRF simulation for Hurricane Dorian shows that the high resolution model continues to promote an impactful Florida landfall during the early Wednesday morning hours.

I screw around a lot and make a lot of jokes but those videos are pretty sobering. There is some bad destruction and they are only half way through.

The bad thing is, their structures are weakened, or damaged before the second half comes. We will see video in the next 20 hours that will make you want to puke.

Let's all hope that the big right turn materializes.

Holy shite, the surge behind the eyewall hasn't even hot yet. Where are these people going to go, and how did they even get that video out??

usually the cell towers work until their batteries run out so they have a few hrs before there will be no service

This storm is a true marvel. I’ve never seen anything like that on this side of the world. The fact that is hitting land is horrifying.

Eric Blake ?? @EricBlake12 Too busy for social media but wanted to show the view from my desk. The satellite presentation of #Dorian reminds me of Irma in a very bad way.

#Dorian poses a significant threat to #FL, #NC, #SC bringing storm surge, flash flooding, and strong winds that can cause substantial damage to homes, businesses and our electrical infrastructure

Duke Energy JUST tweeted this out

Sounds like Duke Energy is now predicting a Florida landfall. Yikes.

True. That is assuming the towers themselves are not toppled. Some were bent in half on the Yucatan in past storms like Dean in 2007 I believe.

Are they forgetting Georgia because they don’t operate there, or due to shape of coast?

No, it doesn't sound like that. Florida is going to get surge and rain regardless of a landfall.
