Considering that almost 60% of the wealth in this country was inherited, no I don't think what people have is based on how hard they worked to get there.
Do a lot of people work hard to make themselves successful? Absolutely. Is it possible to be born into poverty and become successful in this country? Absolutely. But let's not pretend that every successful, wealthy person earned it. Nepotism and the good ole boy network are still very much alive and well in this country, and always will be.

Edit: Nevermind. I looked it up. That stat comes from a recent book by Thomas Piketty. That stat, and the book, has been thoroughly debunked. It’s a nonsense statistic.

“Never” is too big of a word to put in that sentence.
Almost everyone who speaks in absolutes is absolutely dum.

“Well you see kids, i know that all 7 of us live in a run down trailer at the end of the park, but it’s all we can afford since your daddy’s laid off and laid up from the accident. And I only make so much working at the convenience store. But I want to tell you how privileged you are. You are so much better off than any black child, because of your white privilege you see.
Sure, there may be 11 of us living in a rusty shack with holes in the roof and floor, Eating Vienna sausages with macaroni, but think about how much better you have it Than this poor black kid
Because in this country, being white means you are successful and being black means you are doomed. You racist kids.”

I like how you think this is specific to only one racial group

Get two backpacks. Fill one with a two parent home, parents who go to parent-teacher night, parents who read to them, and parents who don’t let them get sexually molested by relatives and neighbors. Leave the other backpack empty. Explain to your children that a white person in this country begins life with the filled backpack
THIS is white privilege!

Some of you people are so racist, white privilege exists, although it is usually not defined very well. Actually anyone can have WP, it means coming from a solid 2 parent family, your parents read to you everyday, they instilled in you the value of an education, made sure you did your homework and got good grades. They didn't just go to school to complain, they went to follow your progress, they taught you to respect your teachers and if you caused trouble at school, you were punished at home too. They taught you manners, to respect elders, to be self reliant, that you are not a victim, you are responsible for your actions, good and bad. They gave you a work ethic and self discipline.
A lot of whites don't have white privilege, a lot of blacks do, we all know who they are. A lot of crappy people were born into wealth, a lot of great people rose out of poverty. I was lucky, my parents gave me WP, the kid next door, didn't get it, he was my best friend until he tried to teach me to shoplift.
Let's start with this - siblings. Why do some siblings turn out successful and some dont? Is it because the unsuccessful sibling wasnt given your hypothetical priviledge?
In my experience, it's often the sibling that was coddled the most that turns out the least successful.

I like that you assumed that I think that when I made no mention of race in my post.

People that think like this (and use the term white privilege) are racist to their core and they can't even see it.
You ever think it's possible people aren't racist and what people have is based on how hard they worked to get there?
Nice strawman.
There is inherent advantage to looking like the majority of people. There is an inherent advantage to looking like the majority of your customers.
None of that means you didn't work your arse off to be successful. They're not mutually exclusive.

So now people's parents/grandparents are at fault for working their arse of to pass down their success?
You realize how insulting your stance is to most American's don't you?
You are telling people who have busted their arse to get where they are that they didn't earn it. This is massively insulting and you are pissing in the wind if you think you are convincing anyone of your bullshite.
In fact your weak argument is actually convincing me even more how moronic this racist white privilege stuff is.

We ALL have privledge
Being born in the US is a privilege
Genetics are a privilege - black athletes
Being a student athlete is a privilege- free college education
Born with 2 parents is a privilege
We all suffer some more than others. We all have privileges some more than others.
It's how you navigate that in life to find the beauty of life and define who you are.
This country will NEVER be a utopia.
Shout out to Hispanics coming here by the droves with not even a dollar in their name and making something of their lives. Large scale percentage wise. Family values, 2 parent households, caring about education etc.

That's quite the idiotic leap to make from my post.

So fricking disingenuous. Unequal outcomes doesn't mean any sort of privilege or racism. It means one kid's parents made the right and sometimes hard choices that allow them to fill his backpack.
A black child born to two lawyers is definitely going to have a backpack more full than a white kid born to a single white mom.
Instead of trying to "teach" the kid with the full backpack about his "privilege" (i.e., make him feel guilty about good choices his parents made), why don't we try and teach the adults who aren't making good decisions, resulting in their kid's backpack being empty?
Nooooo...we can't have that talk in America. That's uncomfortable for black people. But here we are, as white people, being told that we need to become uncomfortable so that we can "grow."
frick that.
