A spray of water from a hose is a much better option. Do it every time he starts barking at you and eventually he’ll learn
How do you spray the dog through a wooden privacy fence?

Number 1 never confront your neighbor over it. If the dog dies then you would be suspect number 1. Who else have motive right?

Always keep that option to kill it in your back pocket. Never complain when something is bothering you so that if drastic measure needs to be taken after you exhaust non leathal means, then there would be no blow back.

Slight aside, related though.

When folks are walking a dog in a public space and the dog is going abso-frickingly berserk at you and the dog owner’s weak-arse protestations towards the dog is some soft “Hush up, (dog’s name). You know better.”

Either be able to curb your dog or don’t take it out in public.

THAT really grinds my gears.

tl/dr: The OP’s neighbors should shut their dog up.

Get one of those high pitch whistles.

He'll stop when he hears it.

Sort of have this same issue with the neighbors behind me. We share backyard fence line. They leave the dog outside all day and it barks non stop because it wants inside. Sort of mean and cruel honestly (i'll let you guess the demographic).

Anyway, our master bedroom is near the back fence line and that fricking dog barks all night. So, we call non emergency to let them deal with it. Non emergency shows up, knocks on door, no one answers door, they leave.

Ended up talking to sherrif's office on the matter and they basically said there is nothing they can do. Even HOA says theres nothing they can do.

No point in going over there and talking to them because.. well.. i'll let you guess the demographic.

Dognap it and drop it off in the country?

As the owner of 3 dogs that love to run the fence line and bark their asses off, I could offer a solution that I use to stop my dogs from being assholes. When my neighbors are out back and my dogs won’t stop, I will bring them in and close the back door. Typically we leave it open when we’re home because we have a storm door with a doggy door and a large fenced in back yard. I also found a training tool that sends my dogs running back into the house just at the sight of it. But based on the reaction my dogs have to it, it could be abusive for someone who doesn’t like dogs and uses it regularly. It’s meant to be a training tool and not for discipline.

Dogs bark at the mailman, and UPS man and others because they think it works. They bark, the person comes to the door. They bark louder, the person goes away. In their dumb arse doggy brain, their barking was the reason they went away.

I’ve owned dogs literally my entire life and have NEVER thought of this. Holy shite…. You’re telling me if I can convince my mailman to sit on my porch for an extra 30 minutes and let my dog bark at him non stop he might actually cut it out?

I got a dog barking a-hole neighbor, little yapper but loud and 20 minutes minimum at a time.

Later we got a big dog puppy now big dog. We let him go all junk yard dog at their fence, but just for about 30-60 seconds, not to be trashy like them just to send a message. Good results.

But fwiw we’d wanted to get a dog before for a long time and 2020-China virus/work from home made it possible, didn’t get him just for neighbor dog deterrent.

did you try this one ? LINK
the remote bark control devices seem like an ideal solution, provided they are effective. I'm considering getting one for my neighbors' highly anxious cocker spaniel that barks incessantly whenever I'm in my backyard.
