even Goldman does this shite
More likely the placement firm does it and Goldman has no idea. This doesn't seem to be a problem for in house recruiters, at least in my industry of which Goldman is a part of.

What kind of company is paying your travel for an interview for an entry level position?
For my internship interview I went to a $100/plate type steakhouse, had a couple of $100+ bottles of wine and then had a bar tab at the Omni where they paid for my hotel room.

I work for a Fortune 100 currently and this is a Fortune 500...these companies almost always pay for travel for office positions.

I’ll have to look back and see who I was in contact with. Pissed me off though

You should definitely frick em over, great idea

Go and get hammered on the flight over. Take an Uber and make a deal about how you've already saved them money by passing on the rental. Hit on the recruiter, shite on Deborah's desk, and call it a day.

The old "banana in the tail pipe trick". I've seen it a million times.

Three whole years?
That changes everything

Is that not a reasonable time to be looking to take the next step in your career?

And that’s why you go and check it out.

Definitely go. You have nothing to lose and if you impress and end up turning down the other role, you’ll likely be the first person they call when that original role opens back up or maybe a role even above it.

Do I go up there and see what it’s all about, or do I go with my gut and say frick ‘em and let them eat their lost costs for never once mentioning this to me?
Something similar happened to me. I applied for a director position, when I got there for the interview, they said they were considering me for a coordinator position. A few days later, they offered me the director position. I used that to leverage a pay raise and title bump at my current place of employment.

You can't turn down an offer that you never got. Go keep an open mind, practice your interviewing skills, do your best to get the offer, then decide if it's something that you want.

No it doesn't, unless you don't care about completely burning professional bridges for blurry reasons.
I could see where it would make sense to bow out if you have a family and making the trip requires a lot of shuffling for your personal life.
Still should probably go, but I would see it as reasonable to not go if it puts a burden on your family and it's not the job you wanted.

I mean, if one day really puts that much of a stress on your family life I guess.

Probably a good one to be honest.

You'll get a free trip, hotel, and probably nice lunch out of it at the very least. If it won't hurt your current job, why not? Anything's possible sometimes.
