I feel it is a combination between the new police chief and the influx of the state police

Even ChatGPT knows:
Base Rate Effect: Large percentage decreases can sometimes be misleading if the starting numbers (baseline) were exceptionally high. For example, a 48% drop in homicides is impressive, but if the city had an unusually high number of homicides in the previous year, this drop, while meaningful, may still leave the city with a relatively high homicide rate compared to national averages.

Data released by the NOPD
Does the data show the work done by the State Police after they moved in and started doing what the local government and Feds would not allow?

its math, the more people you murder, the less people there are available to murder.

homicides have decreased by 48% compared to 2022
How absurdly high was the murder rate, per capita, in 2022?
What is the current rate, per capita, compared to other cities?

I have no factual basis for this, and it may be naive or simplistic, but it seems that Kirkpatrick is doing a good job as Chief.

Bad aim equals less murders

The number of gunshot wounds coming into the hospital has drastically dropped
More accurate shooting -> they now go to the morgue?
Starting to hide bodies now?

This lady!!!!! She needs to run for mayor

She is
Part of what she’s doing is bringing accountability back. Cops used to run side gigs, fudge their time sheets, lie about their locations, and generally do what they wanted but she has implemented accountability.
She also works well with state police who are doing the ground work to shake down the criminals in ways the city cops can’t. She isn’t playing politics with it.
It’s the best hire Latoya ever made

They hired a lesbian with a nail gun to hide the bodies in abandoned row houses.

Or they are doing what they did in Chicago in the early 2000s and just did not report them.

This is far more believable. The same way they’ve incredibly managed to go from 5,114 traffic offense arrests (I’m assuming this is shite like DUI) in 2010 to 43 last year.
I would like to see the "missing" persons numbers. Can't be a murder without the body.

266 in 2022
194 in 2023
Looks like 96 so far this year per the metro crime map, and it looks like a couple of those are vehicular (which I wouldn't necessarily consider violent crime).
