Zero damn dollars.

And I’ve taken my nieces and their significant others to Disney.

I speak jive. He says:

If she actually works, tell her to feel free to give her paycheck.

OP never says they ‘need’ the money to go - it sounds like wifey wants to give her great nieces and nephews some extra cash to spend or maybe get a &12 churro.

If that’s the case, then wifey should give whatever she wants out of her own money.

If the niece is graduating or something, a Disney gift card as a gift maybe..

But to just give them money is weird to me.

I go to Orlando every year for the parks... i stay off property at a very nice hotel, and Uber my way around to where I want to go... it's significantly cheaper, and the hotel amenities are WAY better... for 2 people, it can be done for 3,500 on a 4 day weekend... i did it last year... it's easy, but you're not in the "Disney bubble"... however, like I mentioned, the amenities are significantly better

Staying on property is insane regarding cost... staying off property will save thousands... besides, the food is generic crap that costs 20x what it's worth... also, orlando has a pretty decent food scene... Google Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, and look at the pool, golf course, rock climbing, and lake... you could spend an entire day there without ever hitting the parks, yet it's like a 15 minute drive to every park that's local... not to mention it's on the same road as Disney Springs

Give what y'all want to give. My opinion is irrelevant to this insane bunch of bullshite.

I was thinking this when I read the title, but after reading the OP I realize he's trying to figure out a rationale response to an irrational request.

In the end the answer is going to be however much his wife wants to give!

I don't know what it is about people.. And its usually parents, paying for their adult kids to go on vacations.. but if someone decides to go on vacation that's on them. And while this isn't paying for adult kids, the parents have decided to take their kids on a vacation and that's the parents responsibility to pay for their own kids. If I had kids and someone wanted to pay for something like a vacation, I would tell them if they feel like they need to pay for something, take that money and put it in a ROTH IRA or something for them so that it could help set them up when they become adults.

So if everyone in the thread happen to give the same response, you should give $3,000 to their vacation, or everyone said you should give $0 to their vacation, are these the 2 answers?

Which is the point of my somewhat psycho ramblings on the first page.

So many threads here anymore are just what would you guys do...?

$10k. They work hard? Careful with money and generally responsible? She a real homemaker? If so, I'll support that. But only after I make them invest the money they had earmarked for the trip.

Nah he's trying to figure out if he's irrational before telling his wife hell no and trying to figure out if its worth the fight with his wife.

I get your point and agree with you. Just having fun with the scenario.

In case you haven’t heard, Disney is not cheap.
For a family of five, it starts at around $6k for four days in the park and cheap accommodations.

Too many unknown variables & factors here including (but not limited to):

What’s y’all’s situation as to kids of your own?
What’s y’all’s financial situation?
Do you want to set a precedent doing this?
Are the niece and husband responsible folks?

I’m one of five kids and all of my siblings are at least as well-off as I am.
Mrs Füt (no pics) has four siblings, all of them except one (who never married and has no kids) are able to (if they wanted to) take care of a Disney trip for their own kids.

So I’m not going to have to deal with your issue.

I tighten-up a couple of my pets of our nieces & nephews on the QT. Just cash handshakes, not crazy amounts.

If my wife insists on handing out thousands of dollars, we’re taking that cash and putting it straight into an index fund for the kids' future. Let compounding interest do the heavy lifting over the next decade instead of blowing it on overpriced churros, character breakfasts, and waiting in a three-hour line to see Goofy. When those three kids are actually old enough to remember anything, or when they're looking at college or a first home down the road, they’ll care a whole lot more about a matured brokerage account than a 2026 family photo in front of a plastic castle.

Have none

Have a lot

This is one of my concerns, but probably is not an issue. I grew up poor, so that’s pushing me in a particular direction.

Very much so.

If she’s not a leech and a good niece to help out for future benefit, then I’d probably look into what a one day, including what ever their fast pass is, for the whole family. So what $500-$1,000?

Maybe see if y’all can buy it as a gift card type thing prior, and probably give it as a family gift for Christmas.

I’ve thought about if I eventually set up a Will, I’d to give my nephews/nieces a paid vacation. The rest to the Church/charities. Of course if needed before I get married and have kids, if ever happens.

So giving her a vacation gift doesn’t sound like a bad thing like many in the thread seem to think.

I see the niece rolls first class or not at all.

My Daughter, SIL, and 2 grandchildren are going next summer. Just the Disney package of lowest level resort, park tickets, meal plan, and lighting pass upgrade for 4 days is $5200 not counting gas, travel expenses, and souvenirs. Figure they will be about $6k in when it’s all done.

If the OP’s niece is spending 10, then they are staying at one of the top resorts and more than 4 days. If they can afford that then they don’t need any financial assistance.

My daughter didn’t ask for any money and I didn’t offer.
