I suggest having a dental cleaning something like every 6 months. I think flossing is the most important thing.

You baws seem to have this whole dentist scam figured out. Yep you caught us red handed.

Just know, in a few years, when you need a set of dentures, I’ll be happy to fix you up with a set of plates. I’ll even come out of retirement (I retired just 10-15 years after I graduated dental school).

I’ll just have to find time between the boating, golf club memberships, lavish vacations and my polo ponies.

But honestly, I’m here to help and would be glad to shuck your remaining teeth in your head to make way for your replacement for not having teeth.

Just LMK.

The OP reminds me of people I worked offshore with. The company provided health/dental benefits, but many did not use it. Gum disease, dragon breath, a mouth filled with just a few crooked teeth, jacked up grills, etc.

I know there is a dentist here who can explain further in detail, but a mouth that is not cared for leads to way bigger health issues, like congestive heart failure.

Dental work is not covered by insurance. There is no annual deductible you hit like you can with medical and be able to finally get that major knee surgery as the procedure is 90% covered. The cleanings are relatively cheap in order to prevent the big arse bills years down the road.

And yes someone posted you should not go into one of those corporate dental offices that is all about upsells. Private guy only.

My friend is a dentist. He once said, "you can smell the disease" when a lot of people open their mouths. I didn't believe him until I walked by a guy with his mouth agape on an international flight, and I immediately went, "That's the stink!"

yep. wife will catch a whiff of someone and say "that's periodontal disease"

Dentist here. If he gave you a referral for third molar extractions, he has your best interest in mind. He isn’t making any money by referring you, he is simply trying to prevent major issues from happening down the road. Also, you are more than welcome not to get a deep cleaning, but don’t try to sue your dentist down the road when he tells you that most of your teeth need to be extracted due to periodontal disease. Most dentists really are trying to help their patients, and believe me, we aren’t getting rich by recommending deep cleanings.

Price around on dental work and ask friends for references. Save money!
