re: OT Dental Expert Advice Needed - toofache on 9/16/18 at 9:51 pm
Serious question: Is this just some dental mumbo jumbo to avoid accountability for shoddy work?
I don't think so. When you cut on a tooth, you create a lot of heat. That is why the drill shoots out a lot of water, to try to cool the tooth off. However, sometimes the tooth just ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
(1) Oh, I’ll do it big boy...but my main thread question is: Am I rewarding bad behavior?
Probably not. You probably just got unlucky. That being said, If i needed a root canal, especially on a molar or premolar, I would have it done by an endodontist....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: OT Dental Expert Advice Needed - toofache on 9/16/18 at 9:37 pm
Teeth can respond differently and can be somewhat unpredictable when you drill on them. Even if the decay doesn't get to the nerve, the tooth could still not like the trauma that removing the decay caused. The nerve then gets inflamed and you get toothache. You can take 800mg of ibuprofen 3 t...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (3)
re: How many people have taken a significant pay cut, because they hated their job? - toofache on 9/8/18 at 4:12 pm
I had my own OMFS practice for 12 years. I averaged making 750-850K per year, but running the business and dealing with people was just something that I absolutely hated doing. I ended up selling the practice to 2 other docs and now have worked for them for the last 2 years. I've made significant...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: What are some professions that typically make 200k per 40 hrs/wk - toofache on 12/11/17 at 4:04 pm
The reason that I wanted to become a dentist (oral surgeon) is so that I could make a good living, go hunting and fishing whenever and wherever, and not work like a dog. It has taken 4 or 5 years, but i am at that point now. My office is only open 4 days a week, I work about 35 hours a week, and ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
You don't make real money and go home at 5pm. Saturday night 3am, working. Always working.
Not true at all. I rarely work more than 40 hours a week and I make what I would consider "real money"....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)

It's not a bad gig. I'm 33, I finished my OMFS residency when I was 29 and got a job with an existing practice making a salary that I once thought was just crazy money. 2 years ago I went on my own and opened my own practice. I wish I had done it from the get go. I lost a ton of money by working...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)

re: Medical residency spinoff. Rank the specialties - toofache on 3/16/17 at 8:45 pm
So i'm one of the crazies who went through dental school and then decided to do an OMFS residency. I didn't care about getting an MD, and got into a 4 year residency, which was fine with me. I have a great career, work 35 hours a week when i'm not on call, and have a very comfortable lifestyle. ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Question for Dentists and Periodontists - toofache on 1/17/17 at 10:57 pm
The inferior alveolar artery is the main vessel that supplies blood to the teeth on the mandible. Because she fractured the mandible, there is a chance that this artery could have been damaged. The inferior alveolar nerve also runs with the artery, so if the artery is damaged, there is a chance th...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
