That deep cleaning they're talking about is not fun, from what I've heard.
It isn't, but it doesn't require multiple visits or sedation (I'm assuming some level of manhood from a person who didn't go to the dentist for a decade)
I've had one. It sucked.

Best to avoid it by going to the dentist for regular cleanings (which are covered pretty much completely) and avoiding the pain and expense of neglect.
Sure, but I'm talking about what he should do after that.

Seems like a great profession.
I believe dentists have one of the highest suicide rates amongst doctors.

Will take 2 visits and you will need to be numbed.
This is extremely abnormal your teeth must be a mess. Takes the hygienist not even 20 minutes to clean my teeth and I go twice a year. I bet your gums are a mess.

If a x-ray showed a wisdom tooth leaning into an adjacent tooth, it would be normal for the dentist to advise to have it removed.
I think OP should let it go until it affects the nearby teeth, his bite, and then he'll ultimately need the surgery AND Invisalign or braces so he can then bitch about the cost of those and how much of a scam they are
He clearly prefers the "pound of cure" vs the "ounce of prevention".

Probably gets a few grand just for a referral that leads to a surgery
lol.

Dentists don’t give a shite how clean your teeth are. He told you this because he’s lazy and didn’t want to clean them himself
This makes no sense. They make money cleaning teeth. And the dentist doesn't clean your teeth. They have the hot little hygienist do it and they charge you for it.

Gum scaling (often referred to as a "deep cleaning") is a non-surgical dental procedure that removes plaque and hardened tartar from above and below the gumline. It is used to treat gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis by clearing out bacteria from deep pockets between the gums and teeth
quote:
What to Expect
Anesthesia: Because the procedure cleans deep into the gumline, dentists often use a local anesthetic to numb the area and ensure the process is pain-free.
Multiple Sessions: The deep cleaning is typically split into two to four appointments, focusing on one or two sections (quadrants) of the mouth at a time.Recovery: After the numbness wears off, you may experience minor bleeding, swelling, and tooth sensitivity for a few days.

Yeah the multiple visits and requiring sedation scream they're milking him.
The multiple visits are because he has so much plaque and tartar. They will do the lowers on one visit and the uppers on the next. You are only blocked 30 mins or one hour per visit.
The sedation is because his gums are likely very inflamed from not having his teeth cleaned.
I can't imagine being so nasty not to go to a dentist in 10 years even if I had to pay out of pocket I would go at least once a year.

you're confusing two different procedures. A regular cleaning is NOT anywhere near the same as a deep cleaning/scaling.

dental insurance is the real scam.

This is not a scam. This is the result of not going to the dentist for 10 years.
I went 14 years without going to the dentist. I finally went and they said my teeth were perfectly fine. If you brush twice a day and floss every now and then there is no reason to go to the dentist unless you just have bad teeth genes...which a lot of people do.

It’s not a scam, it’s because you haven’t been to the dentist in a decade and have a pile of shite under your gums.
I had a similar thing in the past; not quite a decade but there was a decent chunk of time in my 20s when I stopped going to the dentist. When I went back to get on the regular 6 month interval, I had to do the two 2hr sessions deep cleaning.
The deep cleaning fricking sucks, even with the local anesthesia. It’ll make you sure to not skip your regular appointments.

The dentist is not a scam.
Dental insurance, like all health insurance, is a scam.

you got screwed - I don't know of any other dentist that requires all this or they did this because you haven't been in 10 years

I'm not confusing anything. I go to the dentist twice a year hence I don't need a 'deep cleaning' nor do I need to be sedated. Do you understand this? Its abnormal to need these things done. People who regularly go to a dentist don't have to deal with such.

Sounds like you needed to go to the dentist a lot more than once a decade if your teeth need to be numbed to be cleaned. Yikes.

You are so close but your IQ doesn't seem high enough. These "deep cleanings" are sold to people who haven't been to the dentist because they make them think they need them. You just can't connect the last dot.

A dentist friend of mine posted a picture of this extraction a few months back. This is why you might want to stay ahead of impacted wisdom teeth.

That is not true, most insurance plans will not pay for all 4 quads being done on the same day. So if you want ins to pay, you will have to go twice.
