I like to keep at least $200k in my checking account. Unfortunately, I haven't even come close to doing that yet.

2-4k in checking - which easily covers normal day to day.
50kish in savings
Everything else in brokerage and retirement
50k in savings might be a bit much, but you never know when you need easy and fast access. And if you’re worried about the ROI on an extra 20-30k, well that’s on you.

$10k in checking? Do you enjoy passing up free money?
My goal is to keep as little as humanly possible in checking. Some months it's less than 50 bucks.

baw, don't you know everybody on here is the wizard of Wall Street, was going to be a Navy Seal but the DoD thought that would be too inhumane, and was a blue chip D1 pick before they blew out their knee scoring the winning TD in their hs state championship game?

None right now. I converted it all to Bitcoin and sent it to Sophie Cunningham. She's been texting me and we're going to buy a house together.

I tend to keep very little in our checking account. I get paid twice a month. On pay day I sit down and pay the bills, leave enough to run until I get paid again, usually about $800, and the rest I move to savings.

Not here to have a pissing contest just telling the truth. Whether you believe me or not, you should still never have more than 250k in one bank because that’s the limit covered under FDIC.

Instead, folks most often judge others' financial success by the visible trappings of wealth. Ironically those with the flashiest fashions and biggest toys are most likely to be debt ridden while the rich among us maintain stealth mode. At least the consumer culture keeps our economy humming along.
Inappropriate question. Didn’t your Dad teach you better? To never ask how much someone else makes or has???
Much better for people to talk $ amongst each other and learn to improve their finances than to shut up politely then lash out against the capitalist system they don't understand.

Never more than $20k in checking. Cash above that amount goes into an investment account that is easily liquidated. No interest savings accounts are useless.

About 90k split between two banks.

You paying bills with $200?

It’s actually fairly simple. I’m an average middle class American. I live below my means. I have 24% income going into retirement. I have a brokerage account. I have another set amount of my income going to a savings account.
Once you learn to live at a certain level, the world has a way of opening up.

None, it's a checking account!

$1.2 million in investment account (post tax)
$1 million in 401k (pre tax)
150k in CD
150k in HYSA
$20k (checking/savings).
No debt, house and cars paid for. Never spent more than $17k on a vehicle. Retiring at 50 (1 year away). Dumping everything outside of company match into post tax investments until then.
