How much cash do you keep in your checking account

I try to keep it from 5-10k (can swing bigly when mortgage/bills come due) with maybe another $15k in my Vanguard “high yield” money market fund and just pour everything else (when applicable
) into into my Vanguard automatic fund.
It’s generally been fine but feels like I’m flying a little low to the ground sometimes. On the other hand I don’t like the idea of money sitting there not working for me

Around 2-4 hundred, via app I can transfer as much as I need on the fly. With identity theft and fraud you are crazy to have more. If I need to make a big purchase I can visit the bank in under 24 hours.

Same, theres some more in instantly transferable savings maybe 1500, but most goes to HYSAs and brokerage accounts.

Several thousand, but I pay my mortgage out of that account and also pay my credit card off using that account every month (pretty much all bills and other living expenses go on the credit card), so the amount varies.

Not much usually around 5k. Transfer extra to my HYSA or brokerage account.

Cash in checking? A few thousand, I don't keep much in it.
But I keep a lot of cash on hand in my safe and over $200k in a easily accessible HYSA with no penalties or withdrawal fees.

Depending on what you mean by a lot, that is money that is not working for you.

I have plentybof other ways my money is making money. My cash in my safe backs what i do, just like the gold in Ft Knox used to back the dollar bills in your pocket.
And i don't want the gubmint or anyone else knowing how much I have and what i might use it for.

I'm about same as OP. Few hundred of missed interest annually is worth it to not have to worry about overdrafting when bills autopay. This method has allowed us to live without budgeting or sitting down to pay bills monthly. Just watch charge and withdrawal notifications for anything suspicious or unwanted. Our spending is very lumpy so a budget would be tedious and fortunately we are both quite frugal (trying to learn to spend more not less at this point). When I notice balance get excessive I transfer some to investments.

Inappropriate question. Didn’t your Dad teach you better? To never ask how much someone else makes or has???
