Several thousand, but I pay my mortgage out of that account and also pay my credit card off using that account every month (pretty much all bills and other living expenses go on the credit card), so the amount varies.
Do people use other accounts for this stuff?
I’m being serious. All my bills/mortgage/etc… come out is this account so I need a pretty big buffer

Inappropriate question. Didn’t your Dad teach you better? To never ask how much someone else makes or has???
I did not ask anyone how much they make or have, nor did I indicate how much I do (or don’t
I’m more asking money management strategy because I don’t know wtf I’m doing and am curious to see if I’m being stupid or not

$10k in checking? Do you enjoy passing up free money? My goal is to keep as little as humanly possible in checking. Some months it's less than 50 bucks.
This is probably on me, but seems like I have some credit card or mortgage or bill or insurance or whatever due just about every damn week.
I like being reasonably confident I can cover, plus I like knowing I can get cash at an atm whenever I want (I keep $100 - $300 cash on me at all times)

I'm about same as OP. Few hundred of missed interest annually is worth it to not have to worry about overdrafting when bills autopay. This method has allowed us to live without budgeting or sitting down to pay bills monthly. Just watch charge and withdrawal notifications for anything suspicious or unwanted. Our spending is very lumpy so a budget would be tedious and fortunately we are both quite frugal (trying to learn to spend more not less at this point). When I notice balance get excessive I transfer some to investments.
Feel like I could have written every single word of this

It really depends on your monthly burn rate. I try to keep 15k-50k in mine. And before you say it should be only a few hundred, the downside of having a CC (I pay it off every month) or mortgage payment fail ain't remotely worth some skimpy money market rate of keeping it elsewhere and making sure you move it in time. I like lower maintenance.

$200k in a high yield is dumb

10,500. Do not ask me why I add the 500 in there.

Total cash, total assets, liquidity requirements, access, etc.
I mean if all you have is $200K, then yes, it isn't the best idea.
