Many people obviously spend money unwisely but given the wage stagnation and skyrocketing price of education, housing, and other important expenditures is it really surprising that so many people are screwed?

Honestly, I was up until 5 years ago due to paying off college and other credit debts.
I got a much better job 5 years ago and I went from being behind to being able to go without a paycheck for six months, if I had to do it.
I'm in my early 30's.
