47. Missing Alaska, Mississippi and Arkansas. Hope to do Alaska next summer and then do Arkansas/Mississippi next fall over a weekend when going to an SEC game. So hopefully will be at all 50 a year from now.
My personal criteria is doing something unique (seeing a unique site, eating at a local restaurant, etc.) in the state. There’d been states I’d driven through that I later went back to to check off because I didn’t count that for myself.
So I wouldn’t count driving through or even getting out of the car to pump gas or eat at McDonalds. That’s just my own criteria though, if a person wants to count that for themselves, that’s cool. I know some people have stricter criteria about staying overnight; there are definitely states I count for myself where I didn’t spend the night.

I’ve been to 41 states and 33 countries. I’m 62, so I’ll hit a few more of each.
I’ve missed Hawaii, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Indiana, and Iowa.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to Kentucky and I know I’ve never to been to ND or SD. Those plus AK and HI are all I’m missing
if the criteria is you have to spend the night I’d have to add NE, KS, IA, OH, NM

Been to them all except the extreme NE and top-center.
I think 42 states total, but I worked for a company with over 50 manufacturing plants and would systematically visit them as I could.

Easy all 50 plus PR and the Virgin Islands...thats been one bonus of covering the whole country for work.
Wish I would of been smarter when I was younger was always work, work work never took any extra time to sight seeing or travel until past 10years or so.
Still got to see some really cool places and a ton of international countries too with work.

How many different states have you traveled to in the USA
I have used over 50 different domestic US airports (not just made a connection).
So I think we’re about even.

New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, Maine, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, California, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah
So 23 total, I guess? Feels like more in my head than when I count it out. I don't include stopping in airports. I have to have done some activity beyond flying in the state for it to count.
