I mean…. You make it sound intentional and that he didn’t almost die in a commercial diving incident as they found his quivering body in the pitch black at the bottom of the ocean

As a kid we used to do this in pools. I remember getting up to 3 minutes and 42 seconds and setting our neighborhood record.

the key to consistency is to charge up by taking deep long breaths. my lungs have always been strong. I played a horn and even in middle school I could hold a tone longer than everyone in high school.

No clue. Haven't done it in forever. just set the timer for 1:30 and made it. Definitely think it was easier setting a goal and making it than just seeing how far I can go.

Just tried it for the first time. 1 minute and 16 seconds. I could probably get up to 1:45 within a week or two.

After hyperventilating and then completely relaxing, my best time is 4:51. I had extra inspiration to stay underwater since there was a married couple at the pool trying to talk me into joining Amway. I was going to stay under until they left or I drowned. (Fortunately, they left before I died. I guess they got the hint.)
