At once time, St. George was in undated with panhandlers, usually around the Siegen/I-10 area and had encampments in the woods between there and Bluebonnet.
I dreaded seeing them whenever I made my way into town but maybe a year or so, they vanished.
Poof! Magic fairy dust or something.

That’s a lame excuse cities make to cover for their incompetence.
They could absolutely solve this. Especially the panhandling rings.
These people are drug addicts and petty criminals. Make it hard for them to live in your community.

I've recently been accosted 1) in the parking lot of Sam's - brotha asking everyone passing for food and 2) sista in a scooter INSIDE TARGET chasing people asking for money.

Our city has a nice park area downtown with a playground for kids. So they built some nice restrooms for the people in the park to use. Well the bums at the Salvation Army shelter got wind of this and now they walk a mile every day to sit on the benches and nearby areas all damn day. Right next to the playground and where visitors walk by.
They can walk a mile there and back every day.. but ohhh nooo... can't work. I imagine they are "disabled".

Birmingham does nothing except subsidize them. Every do-gooder has to go handout food at Ingram Park on Sunday morning. frick those people. Do not subsidize bad behavior. You simply get more of it.

There was a story here four or five years ago where one of the regular panhandlers had the “inherited money from an old relative he didn’t know on the other side of the country” thing happen.
The lawyer had tracked him down after finding a news article on the internet about local panhandling. The cops helped them connect, local news did a story, it was like 80 grand and it was going to help get his life back on track.
He was back on his corner a week after the story ran.

I agree local authorities could do more but they can’t just pass a law saying “no panhandling on the corner”

My city actively manages it so I will see maybe one or two a week. Helps to be a major tourist town in a red state.
ETA: Also, anyone remember the time San Fran cleaned up all the homeless when Xi was visiting from China? They can clean it up, they just don't want to. The homeless industrial complex is a massive grift that they need to keep going.

Maybe we could pay the better bums to roust and roughy up the worse bums. Maybe film it, put it on YouTube. Call it "Vagrant Scuffles" or something
