I take camelia to and from work everyday. They’re there all the time and I’ve never seen anyone give them anything at the K saloom light or the Johnston light but they still show up. There’s another spot on W Congress and ambassador by the Albertsons and they set up shop by the bus stops. They have grocery carts full of shite.

My town passed a law requiring permits to panhandle….and they don’t grant any permits. Anyone in violation of the law goes to jail.

I used to see them very rarely in Baton Rouge (1990’s)and they seemed sincere so I would give them a couple bucks as did a lot of the motorists. They probably made pretty good money. Now they are everywhere and I almost never see anyone giving them money. People have wisened up to these drug addicted mentally ill folks.

I assume it’s the drugs, esp opioids, which fueled the homeless explosion. As far as laws, begging on the corner is protected by the First Amendment now. It’s unfortunate. We all want freedom but it takes a high trust society to enjoy that freedom and not have it used against us. Theres just too much trash out there now.

I was going to see the new Spider-Man movie in Lafayette a couple days ago, and I was at the light at Pinhook and Kaliste Saloom and I saw one and he had a full Raising Cane’s meal on the sidewalk and I was like - with the price of Raising Cane’s I can’t believe somebody bought him a full combo

I usually converse with them to try to see if they are truly a bum or just a scam. Pretty easy to tell.
If they are just scamming I disregard them and move on.
If they are truly down and out homeless.....I give them a cheap firearm so they can protect themselves.

Athens Clarke County bought an acre of land off Barber Street that they turned into a homeless camp that they managed. Tents and everything. And like you'd expect, fights and rapes. They closed it down and now they issue free hotel vouchers. So to answer your question, they pissed it all away.

St. George has somehow gotten rid of most of them despite the methadone clinic still operating on Rieger. It's amazing how you can actually change when you have people in charge that actually want to see change.

I often wonder if this is a setup like in the Wire where you have a guy taking money, pretending to be homeless, and the "homeless" guy tells the donor where to go to collect the drugs. I think the ones out there every day are helping to sell drugs, maybe their reward is free drugs? Some are part of a scam network. Probably 3 or 4 are actually homeless.

The exit at I-10 at Pont de Mouton also, especially on Sunday mornings because people typically exit the interstate there to go to Crossroads church so they typically post up there for church traffic

Open your eyes.
None are homeless. They have shelter waiting for them at charities and government run programs. They don’t want to follow the rules. It’s their choice to live on the street. Their choice to do drugs and be alcoholics.
So no, they are not homeless. No one is in the USA.
