Over the long run fat people cost insurance companies less than average/skinny people.
You’re going to have to provide some support for that claim.

I this stupid thread 3-4 times a year.

Total myth
Not a myth at all.
Remember, poor people think in today's costs. They don't understand, nor do they pay for, future costs based on today's decisions.
It is simply easier for many people to roll through a fast food joint, than it is to make a healthy meal using high-quality ingredients.
Further, junk food is readily more available. My office building has a vending machine with soft drinks and chips and candy. Where's the vending machine that gives you carrot sticks and apples?
It also costs more, as I just posted, to eat out healthier than to eat out poorly.
Yes, 5 salads made at home may be cheaper than 5 big mac meals, but see my point above about ease.
Man, the situation is getting worse. It may be time to think of it another way.

So, are you saying that if an obese person who drinks 3+ a day, but changes nothing else, they'll get thin?
Ugh, yeah. Their caloric and sugar intake will be cut by a lot. That's how you lose weight. Now, if they start eating better and exercising, it will happen even faster.

Nobody is getting a kids cup of water in the drive thru versus a 32 oz soft drink in the car.
Again, like I told Mingo... we need to change our thinking and start thinking like poor, rushed people. Then we can find solutions that actually work.

Has nothing to do with price.
Chicken $.99/lb at sams
Frozen broccoli pack $1.19
Two meals for $2.50 with tax.
Is it easier to pick up $8 worth of McDonald's? Sure, but it's not cheaper

People being dumb is not proof that it is more costly to eat healthy.
The rest of your post is the shittiest supporting argument I've ever seen.
All you backed up is that people are lazy, not that it's cheaper the eat shitty food.

The bottom line is that Americans have lost the concepts of self discipline and personal responsibility as a society. Without cherishing those two values your life will always be somewhat of a train wreck.

You are making psychological arguments, which are probably correct, but its still not cheaper.

Sugar is more addictive than nicotine. I really don't care if someone wants to blow up over 300lbs drinking sodas and eating like shite, I just don't want to pay for their healthcare.
Yep, as long as I'm swimming in the risk pool, I want to make sure others aren't taking giant diarrhea dumps in it.

You're right. If I hit a drive through, I get an unsweet tea... Always.

I don’t see why people would chose sugar water with no health benefits over actual water.
Because it tastes good (to some) and most people do not live their lives with their health at the forefront of their decision making process

Today's lunch
6 pack of chicken tenders cooked last night (soy sauce and siracha) and a steamer bag of broccoli. Split in half for me and the wife.

Bruh.
Poor people don't have a Sams Membership. Poor people don't have a car to drive out to the burbs for a Sams Membership.
They have a corner store that likely doesn't sell either chicken or broccoli. They can probably get it at the WalMarks for $3.99 a lb, plus the broccoli.
So, they can pay $5-6 for fresh and they gotta cook it, or $8 for drive thru.
I mean me, I love $2.99 Tuesday at fresh market, but I have a car.

How fat of a baw are you, baw?
I'm not that fat, I'm older and have lived a good life and I drink Diet Coke. The latest studies show DC has no positive or negative effect on obesity. But it does not add the massive amount of calories one takes in when they drink that high fructose corn syrup shite.

And to answer your question, stop subsidizing healthcare for obesity related diseases. Make people pay the costs of their decisions.
Posted on 1/15/19 at 11:45 am to deathvalleyfreak43
It should be criminal to feed your kids sodas and juice chocked full of sugar. You are basically getting the kids hooked on that shite.
To make any dietary change you have to start with the kids. Mine are 5 and 8. Their choices for drinks are water or milk 98% of their meals. I'm never given either a soft drink in their life.

And the 5 or 6 dollars makes 2 meals so you are paying about 25% of the already prepared food. In its simplest form you are going to be wrong every time. Prepared food has direct labor and overhead where as your food doesn't. You cooking is going to be cheaper 100% of the time

Of course Sodas aren't the only factor. Stop being obtuse and insinuating that people think they are.
I thought I interpreted the OP's opening statement accurately.
quote:
How do we get fat people to stop drinking soda? Clearly this is a major cause of obesity in the United States and honestly the only people I see drinking soft drinks are severely overweight.
But look, my only point is that he is saying that soda pop is a MAJOR reason for obesity in SEVERELY overweight people. Severely overweight folks have larger issues than quitting soda. He singled out severely overweight people, not me. That said, I absolutely agree with mingo in that generally speaking, soda does contribute to general obesity, and therefore discontinuing to consume said soda, can help in weight loss.
