It has everything to do with low oil prices. The ethane cracker is at 79 or 80% and will be completed. The gas to liquid facility won't be built. Sasol has been stalling on making the GTL commitment for almost 2 years. Why? Because of low oil prices. The facility was going to turn natural gas into diesel, but it's not commercially viable at such low oil prices.
Natural gas would be the feedstock, but diesel would be the produced product.

Lng exporters are looking to bypass Panama canal fees. There are talks of converting a gas import facility on the Mexican west coast to an export facility. This makes economic sense especially for the west Texas gas fields. Pipe it to Mexico, liquify it, and ship it across the Pacific to Asian customers.

That's almost twice the figure I heard, but they also wouldn't specify the levels they wanted. They got paid for 2 different levels last time. If that holds true, $1000 per acre would be spot on.

"The proposed GTL plant would have produced more than 96,000 barrels of ultra-clean-burning diesel, naphtha and other chemical products each day. Sasol expected the facility to create 750 permanent jobs, paying an average of $88,000 per year."
I know economic impacts often get inflated when lobbying for tax breaks, but that's $66 million in annual payroll. Half of the employees would probably live in TX, but it's still nothing to sniff at.

My lease ends at the end of this year. I only have 10acres in E.Feliciana and got a check for about $3800 3 years ago and don't believe they have ever pumped a drop. Wouldn't mind seeing that check double.!

It would have been great if they built it but it's been known for a while they weren't going to unless oil prices magically doubles over night. And sasol is really big into refining with their south Africa plants so like others they are not rolling in the money.
Swla will be fine but like you said 66 million in payroll is nothing to sneeze at.

There’s 3-4 LNG facilities being proposed. Also, a $3B come to methane facility on the ship channel in the future.

There's tons of work in the Lake Charles area. Just one project that got put aside for a while. The construction side won't be as hurt as you think.
The technology side of it is depressing though, that was going to be a solid step forward.
