How big is the Sasol news about canceling the gas-to-liquids project in SWLA?

Link is here LINK and was announced Thanksgiving Day. Sasol is around 80% complete with construction of the current project and has land that it will not be building on now. Impact on SWLA and La in general from those in the know? Seems like a lot of construction baws are about to be moving out instead of staying to build that project.

Seriously?

This will crush that area with construction jobs as well as future support personnel. Still a lot in that area though.

Wonder if JBE will hold a press conference.

Isn't GTL just one part of a much bigger Sasol project?

Oil was over $90 a barrel when project was announced a few years ago.

The gas to liquids project was part of a larger Sasol complex. They have delayed that aspect for awhile, so this isn’t a huge surprise.

However, the gas-to-liquid part was going to be huge, and a foundation for more jobs & industry in the area. Sasol has and will continue to employee a lot of people, but it will no longer be a catalyst to transform the economy of SW Louisiana.

Good deal. I didn't want to get to the house too early.

Get us something, I need some venison.

Bad news. Wasn’t this a $20B project? Between this and the Shell project that was cancelled, low oil prices screw LA again.

The project was for conversion of natural gas to liquids, the liquids would be used as a alternative to oil, this has everything to do with the price and availability of oil and nothing to do with LNG.

I'm not well read on that market, but some large landowners in W. Feliciana are being contacted about mineral leases(Tuscaloosa Shale). They are being offered about twice what was paid 6 or 7 years ago. Someone knows something.
