Engine swap on an old yota 4runner isnt bad, same for transmission. Excursion is worth it to do a new engine swap10-12k and will Last another 500k, might as well swap the trans also for another 4-8k and then just fix shite as it breaks bc the bones will be new, just need small things. Your in it for 20-30k and have a truck/suv for half the price and a million times more capable than any current truck/suv and for less than half of any of the current models that are comparable

Get a van, wife begrudgingly bought an Odyssey. Now she will never not own a van.

Tell people I have been to more than my fair share of funerals.

I have looked in plenty of coffins.

I have yet to see the first one with little pockets sewn along both sides where the deceased can take his money with him.

Life is very short.

You work your arse off. Enjoy the fruits of your labor.

If you can afford it, more power to the man that wants to drive and enjoy a nice vehicle.

Sure, I drove my share of old crap cans when I was young.

A while back, on the outdoor board, I read comments from a senior who has a decked out top of the line bass boat. Enjoys it every weekend, weather permitting. Said he financed it for YEARS, to get the note as low as possible. Has a blast with it and said, when I die, they can come get it.
GOOD FOR HIM !!!!!!!!

80%+ of people who drive trucks do not need trucks."

Where's your proof of this?

Truck owners might protest that they are slightly less likely than owners of other categories to use their vehicle as primary transport (83% vs. 95%), limiting the miles and gallons. And they might also protest that trucks provide capabilities that other vehicles lack. But, as it turns out, a significant portion of truck owners never use their trucks for these capabilities. According to Edwards’ data, 75 percent of truck owners use their truck for towing one time a year or less (meaning, never). Nearly 70 percent of truck owners go off-road one time a year or less. And a full 35 percent of truck owners use their truck for hauling—putting something in the bed, its ostensible raison d’être—once a year or less.

People make 7+ year loans with $1000+ payments. Terrible financial decision.

Forget your neighbors and get something sensible that you can drive for a decade.

If I had a nickel for every 3/4 diesel I see with a tonneau cover and blemish-free $300 BW trailer hitch, I’d retire.

My oldest daughter is one of these financial dumbasses that has no clue about cars, prices, rates or anything else. They keep themselves in financial trouble and we don't help a bit. She asked me the other day if her husband coukd have one of my "old cars" to drive. Pic of said "old car" below.

My trucks always look good, and bring top dollar on resale. Trucks don't depreciate like cars, and hold value extremely well.
I bought a 2017 F-250 in 2016, put 70K miles on it, and got a new 2022 for less than 20K difference.

Show me a car you can do that with (besides a 911)

Old fashioned way. I worked to pay it off - no lease, no inheritance or money from parents.

I bought a Silverado 2500 (diesel) couple years ago. Putt down some cash from part of my bonus and took out a loan and paid it off early again with part of my bonus.

As an alternative, I used to buy newer model used cars coming off lease or returns from rental companies. In a couple of cases I was able to purchase a very nice vehicle that was closer to new at a pretty good discount. In today’s world, not sure that it possible.

Had this discussion with my wife last night.

Her 2015 Terrain is getting near its last legs.

We are going to start looking for vehicles soon.

I asked her how much she wanted for her note.

She responds with, “less than $1000”.

Abso-fricking-lutely not.
