I would love to see you pull my Contender out of the launch with your Trek.
After that, where are you going to put the dive gear and the 320 quart fish box sweet cheeks?

Don’t bother arguing. Depending on the thread, you are either a pussy if you don’t cut your own grass or you are poor if you don’t pay someone to cut your grass.

Who says? How much should a truck be worth?

When you really try to sit down and analyze it from a financial perspective, the entire vehicle industry is mind blowing.

People regularly spend $40k-$50k on trucks and SUVs and feel ok about it. A large percentage of college educated people with good jobs have been conditioned to believe this is an acceptable price to pay for a vehicle. “Hell the new/upper trim ones are $70-$90k, I’m getting a good deal!”

So people drop $40k+ on an investment that is guaranteed to go down in value. Just straight up locking in a negative return on $40k capital.. better yet.. a majority of people use leverage for this investment! Paying a premium to borrow money to invest in something that is guaranteed to go down in value! It is a mind boggling concept.

Considering what an impactful financial decision buying a vehicle is, spending upwards of $40-$50k should be limited to a much smaller pool of people than it actually is. But this is America, and vehicles are worth what people are willing to pay for them. And people are allowed to do what they want with their money. And that’s how you end up with single cab trucks going for $40k.

A car is not an investment. Which negates all your points.

I wish we could have choices to buy vehicles that are bare boned and doesn't have all the tech, etc.

I also wish we could tell dealerships to screw off and we be able to buy directly from the manufacturers.

It is an asset that has value at a point in time and then has a lower value at a point in time in the future.

It is an asset that can be purchased at lower prices than $40k.

My points stand just fine.

I've been out of debt for years and plan on remaining that way. Peace of mind is worth more to me.

It can be asset or a liability. It's an asset as long as it holds some value and you don't owe more on it than it's worth. Flip those two things, and it's a liability.

in other words, don't be upside down in an auto loan.

No. It’s always an asset. The loan is the liability.

good point. I'm tying the two together as one. The vehicle can have value even if underwater on the loan.

He hates people that own trucks because they aren't outdoorsy types... Think about that.

I literally bought a truck with a 6.2 in it so I could tow my camper easier.... To be outdoors more...

I mean that is a really poor example of being "outdoorsy". Hauling an apartment with a fridge, shower, real bed, and a TV to a place that has a road going directly to the "camp" doesn't even dip down to glamping level. If you are "outdoorsy" you put everything you need to live for a week on your back and go out into the outdoors. When you are sleeping in something with a door and lock it is hard to use that as an example of being outdoorsy. That is an example of wanting a truck because you are soft as baby buns.

Sorry that I hit a nerve, but if you have to bring the indoors to the outdoors you are not outdoorsy. Maybe more so than someone that lives on 5th Ave in Midtown and considers themselves outdoorsy because they look down on the trees in Central Park every morning but not compared to someone that likes to actually go into the great outdoors.

Lol okay.

I don't define my time outdoors based on how I sleep. And I don't spend my days inside of a camper. I enjoy going up to the Buffalo River and floating the river 2 or 3 times over the course of a weekend. If sleeping on a mattress and having a safe/comfortable place for me (and my daughter) to sleep somehow makes me a yuppie in your eyes, then consider your invitation to the annual float trip revoked.

I certainly think creating memories as I do with my daughter is a lot better than sitting at home letting her stare at a phone all day. But continue to judge. I won't be losing any (VERY comfortable) sleep over it.
