20 years ago a house was about $1000 a month for us in Shenandoah. My father in law talks about the $250 notes. I want to say 50ish years ago right?

Do y’all just ever think that maybe people like vehicles like some of these nerds may like comic books? Geeze yall are some miserable bastards.

I buy a nice truck because I like the tech, I like the comfort, I like the look. There doesn’t need to be justification for everyone. What if some people don’t have any other hobbies to spend money on and that allows them plenty of money to spend on a nice vehicle. Hell, I know guys that spend more money playing golf in a month than what I pay for my truck and insurance.

What if these people driving loaded out SUVs don’t have kids in school draining tens of thousands of dollars a year?

Ours was under 1k after we refinanced in 2009. Our current mortgage isn't a ton more, something like $1275 @2.3%

A lot of our fellow middle class friends were suggesting Tahoes. Cheapest trim is like 60-65k.

I mean if you need the space a minivan is an option.. they're not as hideous as they used to be . And yeah.. Tahoe's are crazy expensive... I bought my first Tahoe in 2002 .. at the time it had every option available.. total tt&l was 33k.. same trim level now is 90 which is just retarded..

Why on earth would anyone spend that much on a vehicle and how are you affording it?

We bought a Sequoia at the height of the dealer mark up out of necessity due to my wife being in an accident so we had no way to put down... It still is ridiculous what I paid for her SUV...

maybe small cars, cyclists should be banned from high-speed (say over 50mph) roadways.... for their own safety.

Do you feel the same way about homes? boats? bicycles? Everyone should use the lowest common denominator?

You don't need a Tahoe or expedition to fit two car seats.

Most cyclists don't go on those roads for safety already and I certainly avoid heavy traffic areas and ride early in the morning.

this is not the same as a pedestrian area like a downtown area with many shops and restaurants close together deisgned for pedestrians. Vehicles don't belong in those areas.

Go out and walk to places and get out the car, you'll be a lot happier nad healthier. All the data supports that fact.

If you are stretching so far financially that you are asking what monthly is with the late fee you are overconsuming on whatever said product is.

That is the entire point.

Additionally, I just find it hilarious that people by giant trucks and never use them for truck things. I see it every single day and laugh. That is all.

Of course, do what you like, but…

Spending 70k, and financing that over a long term note, on a heavily depreciating mode of transportation is not exactly what I would deem as being very financially responsible.

Yeah, I feel like I'd start looking at those if I had 4-5 kids.

But continue to judge.

I think it is funny when people can't tell they are being worked, even when it is in an obvious ham-fisted manner.

The point was to hold a mirror up to your judgment and you couldn't help but come back and defend your version of outdoorsyness and use judgment as recrimination.

The fact you enjoy camper camping is great but to try to use it as some symbol of being a significantly outdoorsy person and as some judgment against others is weak sauce.

So you see a truck on a given time and day and it's empty - so obviously the owner never needs a truck? Is that your logic?

People buy things to include vehicles for practical and not so practical reasons. How practical are cars that accelerate to 60mph in <3s, pull 1+Gs, go over 200mph? Do you treat them with as much disdain?

The bike you ride - is it 4-5 figure carbon fiber road bike? if so - why? Do you need the absolutely lightest machine out there for your daily ride? Was it the most responsible use of that money?

Dude I posted the data. A vast majority of people buy trucks just because they like them and not for the truck things like hauling shite, pulling trailers, working in a blue collar trade.

It is just a funny observation. It's gross overconsumption but whatever. I don't have to pay those retarded car notes.

Just don't come crying to me when you don't have shite saved for retirment b/c you spent all your money on a stupid truck you did not need.

I know I know. Everyone on the OT is the exception and NOT the rule. Carry on.

I have a car payment because I got a low interest rate during covid. I would not want a car payment with current rates

If you think vehicles should be banned in certain areas because there are a lot of people there then you are a commie as well.
