I went to school with his son who no doubt works at that company. They were loaded back then as well.

what's the tax hit on $100k bonus?
A ton.
Employees never understand this.
This money may have moved you into a higher bracket and all your income will be taxed at that rate.
You clearly have no idea how taxes work. You only pay the higher rate on the incremental income that falls into the higher bracket.

Because they got the best of you in a business transaction and saved money?

Renegotiating is fine, business is a hard place sometimes.
If you don't pay your bills as agreed upon or within terms, I'll run your arse off.
If I'm not in a position to do that right away, you'll pay more.
Nobody rides for free.

I have "fired" some of the clients I get work from, and as scary as it is, it always ends up for the best. I still have one that is slow as hell to pay but they always eventually pay. I keep them around because the volume is too much to let go of. I feel like an abused whore at times but a well paid one.

And you misread my post.
What you wrote is what I try to explain to them, but it doesn't work.
Like if you give a guy a $40K bonus and his salary is $70K. The question is always why so much is withheld on that particular check.

I did that with one, but when I was able to replace them, I did.
Slow payers aren't a big deal when money is cheap, you just can't let them get into your back pocket too deep.

Hilcorp is a GREAT Company, the 100k was paid out months ago, the plan was supposed to go thru the end of 2015...all the company goals were met in early 2015...that's why it's just being made public news now...

They recently completed a huge well about 1/4 mile from my property, which they claim is not in the Unit.
Well if you didn't receive a ratification of unit document to sign or if your lease didn't have a pooling clause, or pooling was not sought after in regards to your mineral estate, or your division order did not contain any ratification language, then you aren't in the unit. Drill site location is irrelevant these days with horizontal wells. They can stake out a drill site miles away from where they are actually extracting from.
That, plus these companies know what they're doing. Those drilling units are strategically placed to maximize THEIR revenue.

What rates are they renegotiating that y'all are talking about?
Posted on 12/10/15 at 10:19 pm to Ignignokt
About 4 years ago they bought every employee a brand new car $40k value. They also don't layoff people during downturns.
Posted on 12/10/15 at 11:57 pm to knight_ryder
Great company. I think when they did the $50,000 it was even grossed up for taxes. I wonder if they did that for this one too.

Labor and materials rates for service companies.
At the start of the year they asked for reduced rates so they could "keep the budget straight". Everyone knew they were a healthy company, and are likely using the fact that other producers were demanding similar reductions to their benefit. Something like this just proves that to be true.
I really don't blame them, it capitalism at its finest. I just can't see myself pulling something like that on my vendors if the situation was reversed.
