Meh. I was at a gas station pumping gas (luckily the furthest one from the store), and about 4-5 police and undercover cop cars roll in with lights a blaring. These guys pop out with body armor on and assault rifles on the readied at the shoulder. Now I give these guys credit for not discriminating against anyone and thought everyone in line was the suspect. They were telling the guys to step out side with their hands up, and the people inside were like, "no one is robbing this store". Yall should have seent the look on that black guys face when he walked out (just got done buying stuff right after they rolled up). I swear that dude had to change his drawers after that.

Come to find out some other gas station reported a robbery, so of course that suspect done got the frick away. Bake'em away toys.

I got protected and served like a mother fricker by mistake about 6 days after Katrina. I happened to obey everything they told me though because cops were tense as shite right around then and I didn’t want a slug through my chest.

In this guys case he had every right to be pissed and even defiant.

Show them your damn ID and all this could have been avoided

That's right. After all, you're presumed guilty until proven innocent by violation of your constitutional rights in the country nowadays.

This whole encounter lasted about 2 minutes. While it doesn’t exactly mirror the events in the video bc the cop is trying to match a picture to the guy, the end result could have been the same if the guy would have just proven who he was...or wasn’t in this case.

warrants absolutely have a picture though.

I don’t understand this reasoning. What is the harm in showing an ID. What if a cashier asks you to present ID for a credit card purchase? What if your bank asks for ID to cash a check? What if a daycare asks for an ID to pick up your grandchild?

so they would rather not comply with any request rather than assist with finding the right guy.

This the dumbest thing ever... assist how???... he not a police officer.., who cares if they find the right guy... what does that have to do with them harassing him

Just show your ID if you are detained. If you truly are innocent, show ID and you will be released.

And the deputy’s bad behavior gets reinforced and he thinks that he can do the same thing again and again.

Also, if the guy reaches for an ID, he’s in danger of being shot. Even if he produced ID, do you honestly think this deputy would have just walked away?

The deputy had backup on the way - why do anything to escalate the situation before backup arrives? The backup officer realized quickly that the deputy was being unreasonable.

Hopefully the deputy was acting in good faith and not being a dumb racist. If it honestly looked similar. That’s enough reasonable suspicion to detain him and identify him.

Bless your heart.

The irony is that actually showing your id in this case proves your innocence.

Wrongful arrest is a real thing. A friend of mine got arrested in Terrebonne Parish a few years back because of mistaken identity. He cooperated, spent a night in a holding cell, and when it all sorted itself out, the lawsuit against TPSO was pretty nice.

He's on his own property, plus if he had something as silly as a late payment on a traffic violation his arse might have been locked up.

A paralegal who used to work for me had her house raided by the U.S. Marshall's looking for a hispanic guy who used to live at the house (before she moved in). They came in with guns drawn. Searched the house and left. No apology, and no explanation for why they raided the house.

She had to call the main office to get an explanation.

Why not explain? Why not apologize?
